Drive Shaft / Axle Replacement

Recommended Posts

Hi, my axle splines are worn and I'm wondering if the standard outer axle shaft assemblies sold by Moss, (and, I suspect, a few others), is a good product. They sell for around 130 UK Pounds. Is anyone willing to share their experience with the product? And who they are made by?

Thanks

Hi,

Just as an alternative, I fitted the TR shop standard replacement shafts (these are just the 'dog-bones' and need new UJ's to be fitted at the same time). They are good value at £95 and I've no complaints so far. Just you need to be familiar fitting UJ's and ideally need a press for this (or a nice heavy duty and square vice)

Cheers,

J.

Hi Nigel,

Fair comment, make its easy. Out of interest what do proptech charge?

They are too far away from me, our local people are H J Chard in Bristol (0117 977 7681) and did a fine job refurb and balancing my main propshaft to the diff.

However they were too expensive for the diff to wheel drive shafts, I think they wanted over £175 for both inc UJ's which is why I bought the TR shop ones.

Cheers,

J.

Proptech ones are also Rislan coated so dont lock up as easy as originals too. Best replacements by far.

Proptech are indeed very helpful and good value, probably the best option for standard shafts.

An alternative is CV shafts, i have the CDD ones and am pleased with them after about 8000 miles of 'fun' driving.

Steve
