TR4A Fuel Pump - Is mine funny?

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I took apart my fuel pump today, from a 1966 TR4A and I have bought a kit to refurbish it. When I look at the pictures in the TR4/4A workshop manuel, it shows quite a few bits that I don't have, for example, I don't have a valve retaining plate, or a place to even screw in the screws. I also don't have the seals at the bottom of the pump.

I just wanted to make sure this was normal, or have I aquired a funny fuel pump?

Thanks

Adam

Hi Adam,

how long have you owned the car. A previous owner may have fitted a repro pump.

Mine also didn't have the valve(s) retaining plate and one fell out. Easy enough to fix by the roadside if you know what to look for.

When the bu99er fell out the second time I made up a plate to keep them in.

It is worth making a retaining plate.

Hi Roger

Yes I am now convinced it's a reproduction pump. I've had the car for about two years but it was (and still is) a wreck, so I've got no idea as to what was done, I just assumed it had been parked up since the 70's, mind you there are tell-tale signs to show someone's pissed about with things.

Thanks

Adam

Oh Dear, is that what most of us on here do, 'piss about with things', I must admit that not all the 'improvements' I do are successful and I have a second, and sometimes third attempt. I think I prefer 'tinkering', my wife wouldn't be happy with me spending all that time a money 'pissing about.' Cheers, Andrew
