boxofbits
Morning all I need some advice please on purchasing a black Surrey soft top hood for a 4a, based on a quality/ price ratio, as I know there are different types available. I did try Don Hoods who were quite reasonable on price but he had around an 8 week lead time. Really I need to obtain one from stock. Any recommendations gratefully received. Grahamgl
Hi Kevin, I bought my top from European Trimming Company. Same material as the originals except mine is black inside. I had it fitted by a local trimming company. It fits well and has never let in any water. Graham
boxofbits
Thanks Graham, I'll give them a call. I'm presuming the inside of the OEM cover was a natural canvass finish and in vinyl as standard? I have a repro frame and to be honest the quality looks pretty good, but how it is when fitted might be another matter! I know when fitting the hood, some stretching was required, so I wonder if the Surrey will require the same treatment? Regards Kevin
Grahamgl
Hi Kevin, Yes, the original that came with my car was a natural finish on the underside. Depending on the weather the first rear popper goes on easily but the second one sometimes needs the corner of the Surrey top to be given a strong pull to get it to catch. I have used it on two RBRR's and it never gave a problem or leaked. It was raining cats and dogs on the Friday night/early Saturday morning and it never leaked a drop.
