boxofbits
Hi Terry You should be able to access behind the dash okay from beneath. You have to be a Contortionist as usual. There should be two thumbscrews (nuts) I believe and then a bracket comes off holding the guage in. You don't need to remove the wooden dash, but before removing the wiring remember to disconnect the battery. Regards Kevin

AlanT
THE BATTERY! Ammeter has thick wires straight to battery live and NO FUSE in the way. Major fire-risk. Terminals are just millimetres from bare metal.
ChrisR-4A
After disconnecting battery. 1. Remove drivers seat 2. Remove ashtray 3. Remove Radio 4. Remove Glove Box Terminals on rear of ammeter have a habit of corroding, remove with care taking note of other wires connected and earth loops. Check fibre insulator fitted between terminals, if broken and no spares avail this can be repaired with araldite or similar epoxy. Clean connections thoroughly these carry high current.
