Moss or Rimmer or Leacy or who else

Recommended Posts

I needed some tricky parts today, example LH TR4 brake plate 133500, Moss catalogue said 'Call' so I did. The guy was really slow to respond, not helpful at all. May need to get it as a used part. But, what does the panel think on these suppliers ?

I find Rimmer the best, accurate, have more parts, but prices a little more higher.

I find Moss a bit generic, they seem to cover more manufacturers and not so helpful, less specific.

I find Leacy seem good price wise, though only cover major items, if you need specific small items, often not there.

I find Revington TR good until I accidentally hit empty Cart rather than update Cart and lost the lot.

Accuracy? Not I find when buying uprated front anti roll bar mountings for a 6. Parts sent from catalogue pages did not fit either to the 6 or even together. Email came back suggesting part nos for standard f arb. I have no idea if they have correct uprated parts....will have to fake the moutings form the undersized bits. The joys of non-standard items....

They are fine for standard stuff, and essential for the 7, and delivery is quicker than other suppliers.

Hi Rob,

not all the suppliers supply everything. If it isn;t new then it may not be supplied by the mainstream.

But there are many traders that do secondhand items - TRShop, TRGB, Walter Petchey TR TRaders etc etc

You have to shop around if you want that certain thing.

Revington are great with technical advice and prices for standard parts match the other main suppliers. When the price is higher than other suppliers it's normally because the part is better quality; don't be slow to phone and ask about prices and quality.

They were one of the first to enter the e-commerce world and the website is a bit dated and difficult to navigate but an all new version is on its way.

Roger,

I understand that some parts are not available, but my point was his 'customer service attitude' at Moss, it was awful.

I suppose my question is whether anyone else has noticed this with Moss or was he just having a bad day.

Moss does "volume" so do not expect their customer service to be as individualized and accurate as a smaller entity but attitudinal is probably not what they would qualify for. Go for Moss for parts which you're sure are trouble free. If the parts are a bit tricky go for suppliers whose offering include second-hand OE.

Hi Rob,

regarding attitude I think you may have been unlucky.

Everybody can have a bad day - some more than most.

TRy and see beyond the miserable wretch in front of you and focus on your rusty wreck on the drive needing that lefthand thread thrupple nut.

As Stef mentions - the smaller outlet tends to be more personal. (They really mean it when they tell you to get out)

We are very lucky to have suppliers for these old cars.

There are a number of different people who answer the phone at Moss and they are usually very efficient. It helps if you have the part number before you call. The salesman will not be familiar with some fine details.

My son can not buy a new wheel for his VW passat from the manufacturer, because it is over 10 years old.

My Citroen has a self adjusting clutch cable which does not work. I am on my third cable now.

If a company can supply small items for our cars they are doing a great job. I just bought new hinges for my 3A door. What a service. There are several suppliers of hinges and Moss were very quick and helpful.

I am hoping that there will be a good supply of parts at the IWE. Lincoln is a long way for some people.

Good luck Richard & H.

Be aware that a number of our well-known and reputable suppliers do not take a lorry-load of parts to the International Weekend, but they will bring parts which have been ordered in advance for collection at the IWE.

I like to go to David Manners Group for my bits, pity I didnt find them 12 months ago when I first got my car. But since finding them they are always very helpful and cheaper than Moss and Rimmers, but the real plus for me is that they are only 20mins drive away.

I have been using TR Shop for more years than I care to remember and they have always been good on prices and most of the time there own sourced parts are better than most (They will also tell you if they arent!) Though saying that I probably spend more than most of you per year at suppliers. I also use Moss TR Bitz TR Trader Revingtons TR Improvements David Manners et al as sometimes availability now is paramount.

We are very lucky with all of our parts suppliers, try restoring something odd like a Panhard!

Stuart.

Ive spent alot of money with moss the past six months and would of struggled without them.

But i must admit there customer service is not the best.I used to order from manchester

but evey time i phoned an order in it was like they couldnt be bothered.I work in customer

service role myself so know how to speak to people even on a bad day so no excuses.

I find moss london more helpfull so always go through them now.

Got most of my bits from Moss via email and international delivery.

Found the service fantastic and very fast.

Only problem I had was the chrome side strips. They arrived bent to fit in the (short) cardboard tube.

They were replaced for free. Turns out they employ handicapped people in jobs they think they can handle, and my bloke worked out how to fit 5 and a 1/2 feet of strip into a 5 foot tube without having to ask his supervisor.

Hi Just to add to the debate. I tend to use Moss more often than not, but do purchase from all the other sites mentioned, when price and availability is an issue. Also use E-bay a lot and have found some very good bargains, but obviously buyer beware as there is a lot of over priced Tat or mis-described stuff out there too, but so far, only good things to say.

I like the Moss site as it is easy to navigate, has very good pictures and you can generally find what your looking for and in some cases parts you did not even know were missing.

Never had to ring them, but the e-comm experience has been very good and delivery is usually within 2 days depending on what and when I order.

Not completely on topic, but I am constantly amazed by the speed and relative low cost of delivery from the UK to Toronto. I mostly use Moss UK and, for specialist parts (so less often), Revington. Both get deliveries to me in a maximum of 48 hours (often in 24) unless they are very small, when they use mail instead of a carrier.

Several suppliers in the US are very good - especially in terms of soft parts quality - but they are generally MUCH slower and more expensive sending parts to Toronto.

No, I don't understand that either...

Thanks all, some good views and suggestions.

I just ordered some bolts from Leacy, they are excellent on price, though the range of parts is limited.

Tim,

I have to agree with you except it is usually takes 4 days to Vancouver Island. I tend to use TR shop or Moss and sometimes Revington. I have used TRF and Moss Motors in the states but delivery from the US is dire and customs always seem to hold US packages for much longer!

My gripe with TR shop is not being able to order on-line, I have to call them to order which is usually early Sat morning, although Lukas is very knowledgable about TRs

Cheers

Graeme

I normally send them an email with my requirements, They have my C Card details on file, so unless there is a problem (in which case they ring me) it all works.
