TR3/TR4 cross-over, or scrap-yard fix?

Recommended Posts

Good evening wise ones,

My handbrake grip has got to the point of needing to be replaced and, lo and behold, I have discovered that my handbrake lever is the type that takes a screw-on grip. In other words, it's a TR3(A?)-type.

As my TR4 is pretty early (October 1961) would you guess this is a production hang-over from the TR3A (which I've never seen noted anywhere) or do you think it's more likely to just be the result of a rebuild in times past when a TR3 lever happened to be easier to find in the local scrap-yard, box of bits in the shed, or whatever?

Just curious...

Tim

(PS Thanks Bob/Lebro for recently posting a photo that showed me what I have)

I'd have guessed some previous repair with earlier parts, Tim. I think the slip-on grip came in a couple of years before your car was built, although that's not something where I know chapter and verse. My car (April 1962) has a slip-on grip.

Not necessarily so Tim as your car was built 6 months before Dons often Triumph used up superseded parts when and where they could to keep costs down so its possible that your screw on one is original.

Stuart.
