Tom Rose
Hello TR Folk, My name is Tom Rose and I am the recent owner of a TR4 that is in need of full restoration ( hey I had to buy it, it has my initials :>) ) Seriously it is very bad shape on or maybe over the edge of what some one would waant to save but It needs to live again. My main machines that I live with are 2 Triumph Motorcycles a '66 Bonnie and a '69 TR6R and 2 Royal Enfied Interceptors a '65 TT Interceptor and a '60 VAX prototype Interceptor. The last British roadster owned was a 79 MGB that I had no love for. I have had the '62 TR4 with unknown TR4A motor and trans for abit over a month and have stripped the car, ( sans the pesky rear wing fasteners), and I am fighting the stuck windscreen this evening. The floors and sills are gone and I plan to do a two piece body restoration. I have been using Roger Williams TR4 resto and Improving books ans well as downloaded workshop manuals and Kas Kastners articles. So far I am loving this car and the processes of learning it. My end goal is not a museum retoration or a competition car but a tractable reliable as can be regular use car. I am looking into a few mod cons like a thin belt and alternator conversion set up a solid state fuel pump, spin on oil filter, and exploring mechanical petrol injection. I have been lurking in the forum and trying to research common questions as to hopefuly not be a nucianse with newby questions. Thanks to all of you who post and have provided so much info and ideas. Looking forward to future communiques. Tom Rose '62 TR4 (Krumpet) Central Virginia, USA

Paul Harvey
Dear Tom & Krumpet, You have come to the right place, and we all love nothing better than a self confessed newby who wants to save a TR. Lurk as long as you like, but don't be shy of asking questions. This Forum is the most knowledgeable and supportive community in the classic car world, but we learn by people daring to try something new, and it already sounds like you might teach us as well along the way. Cheers,
david c
Welcome Tom It's a lot of fun turning a wreck in to a car you can use and enjoy, and apart from some frustrating problems the TR is a good car to work on. The help and advise freely given on this forum will get you through every problem. Without their help at best I would be floundering, at worse I would be back to the endless round of doing up the house with the poor old sod festering in the garage. Best of luck David

Good luck with the rebuild and whilst the books are useful, please don't take Roger Williams words as Gospel! Cheers Graeme
Geko
Welcome Tom, Mind posting some pics of the car ? Something we could fall back on in the future? Go to "More reply options" at the bottom right and attach the files.
RogerH
Hi Tom, welcome to the forum. Post as many pictures of Krumpet as you like - we like pictures. If you do a blog then post the link etc. If doing pictures on the forum keep them about 100Kb. Sadly the max limit is that high - 4.9Mb - so the older ones drop off the edge. Tom Rose
Thanks one and all for your very kind responses! I will upload some deconstruction pictures in a few days. I am attempting to remove a few dificult parts before I upload. The rear wings, and the case of what lurkes beneath. The windscreen posts and frame that just don't want to part, and the windscreen gearboxes and fittment that also want to stay in the car. thanks agin one and all. Attached are two pics from the day it came home warts and all What can I say I like a challenge :>)
RogerH
Hi Tom, a lick of polish and bit of elbow grease and your away - dead easy. Roger
stillp
Tom, it looks straight and relatively unmolested, so shouldn't be too bad a task. Good luck with it. Pete
Tom Rose
Just this pesky problem of no floors, sills, kneeboard etc Funny Forensics this is. On the plus side I did get as a prize 15 to 20 pounds of premium garden compost aged to perfection from it's years as a side yard lawn sculpture. I may have also violated several Environmental protection act statues by releasing A non native specis of termite into my county. there were colonies under the hood trim and windscreen (that won't come off) There will all so be some very angry squirels next season as I have all of their acorns. In all seriousness it is a mess but I look forward to getting stuck in this weekend and hopefully getting the front tub off best to all from the land of the rusty and crusty
