kob666e
Our roads are dog rough and I have had enough of the door catches/mechanisms on the inside of the doors that rattle incessantly. If I keep the windows down it's not as bad, but that could just be the increase in wind noise! I have removed the door cards but cannot then find the offending part that is causing me grief. Can anyone please point me in the right direction of what may be loose and how I go about tightening things up, without affecting the workings of the catches. Rob Salisbury
The anti burst whatsit, next to the lock is a right pain in this regard as the chassis flexes and the door wobbles around, keep it well lubricated underneath the sliding section fixed to the B post, I use a moly grease for this, though it can get a bit messy, hey ho it's an old car you always need some rags in the boot to wipe the thing down!! RogerH
Hi Justin, to clarify upon Rob's reply. The antiburst catch is made of two parts - the male on the door itself. The female on the 'B' post. Inside the female there is a sliding wedge. This wedge moves about to take up any slack when the body moves. This wedge needs to be lubricated to keep it on the move. Also look at the bonnet stay - this usually rattles like a real rattlely thing - I covered mine in heatshrink sleeve. Roger
stillp
If it's definitely coming from the doors, the glass can rattle in its channel. Pete
kob666e
100% sure it's the internal door mechanism, I'll take a further look at the antiburst wedges. The bonnet stay is already taken care of. It sounds like a pebble in the bottom of a tin bouncing around, and driving me nuts!!
TorontoTim
I have the same, so will follow suggestions closely. I'm pretty sure mine's some kind of window/guide/door frame rattle which disappears when the window is open (both doors in my case...)
Geko
Do you have the tie rod (brace) at the bottom of the glass channel which is often missing or loosely clamped (# 88) ? http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/triumph/tr2-4a/body-chassis/doors-fittings/doors-fittings-tr4-4a.html
stillp
Also look for item 46, anti-rattle pad. Pete
kob666e
Also look for item 46, anti-rattle pad. Pete That is in place, or something similar. I even tried a spring on the linkage rod that the anti-rattle pad protects, no joy. I think the issue is with all the little linkages that are attached to the rotary lock (no.34). I could be missing a spring clip that's intended to prevent loose joints. And while I'm on rattles how do I stop the brake pads from joining in on the chorus?
