monty Posted February 28, 2016 Report Share Posted February 28, 2016 I have read previous posts regarding quality of front wheel bearings (kit number GHK1021 from Moss, Rimmers, Revington). Has the quality improved since negative comments last year etc & as they have the same part number are these 3 Companies supplying the same quality product? Are these cheaper bearings now acceptable or are people going for the more expensive Timken items @ around £75 from say TR Enterprises. £15 or £75 is the question I guess! Cheers. MichaelH Posted February 28, 2016 Report Share Posted February 28, 2016 The outer front bearing is small and takes a lot of stck, more with stiffer suspension more with bigger sticker tyres - worst with sticky racing tyres vibrating over a rumble strip at a corner. There are solutions: check your bearing s regularly that they are not getting hot and replace them put in a spacer between the inner and outer bearing with shims so that the race of both of the wheel bearings is effectively solid this ensures that stub axle bearing and hub are in a more stable relationship Buy a couple of the new fatter stub axles with aluminum hubs which have larger outer bearings If you stay with the original bearings be it wheel or gearbox better quality counts and usually more ££ Michael Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I am sure that they also have a much more expensive kit with quality bearings. Its also marked for a spitfire! Small Inner race 03062 small outer 03062 Large inner race 07210x outer race 07210x Hope that might help you identify what you are looking for? rcreweread Posted March 1, 2016 Report Share Posted March 1, 2016 Following up on this thread, I spoke to BRT's head office yesterday - they also have branches around the country to which they will refer you, but they did give me the following info: I think their part number for this bearing kit is BRT 2981- these bearings are made by NTN who again I think they said are a top quality Japanese manufacturer. These bearings are currently out of stock but are expected to be re-available very shortly. Price they quoted to me to pick up from one of their shops was £14.98 + VAT On this basis, and assuming these bearings are indeed good quality ones, it looks like a no brainer to use theirs, as if Moss cheap ones are almost the same price, there is no contest - what am I missing? I am always prepared to pay a bit more for quality parts for my TR's & frankly some of these cheap parts we are sometimes palmed off with are a disgrace, as well as being annoying. Here's what happens if one's wheel bearings (either through poor initial quality or an mechanic who incompetently and massively preloaded them -- not me, this time) aren't up to the task. meesonia Posted January 20, 2017 Report Share Posted January 20, 2017 Hello all In the midst of my 4A body off job and just bought new NTN bearings from my local Bearing and O Ring / Seal shop, Spen Bearings. £80 cash for a full car set. Should have been about £98 I think. However my question is about the Stub Axle, having looked at them closely the rear parallel portion is slightly marked and hasn't passed the finger nail edge check. So I need to replace them.
