Castrol Lubrication Charts

Recommended Posts

Many, many moons ago, I obtained a Castrol lubrication chart for my TR2 (it covers TR3 as well), and when I acquired 4VC in 1969, I obtained the TR4/4A version.

Approaching the 50th anniversary of the TR4's launch, I asked Castrol whether we might reproduce the TR4/4A chart, and permission was granted at no cost, so we produced a laminated version from my master copy for the TR4@50 event at the International at Harrogate in 2011.

A few months ago, Jo Whitty asked me about the TR2/3 version, so I lent her my master copy and the office now has both the TR2/3 and the TR4/4A charts available in laminated form, so ideal for the garage wall!

At the NEC Show, Jo asked me whether I had the TR6 chart. I don't, but I am wondering whether any member has the chart in a decent state (not torn or covered in grubby finger marks!) and would be prepared to loan it for a short while in order that copies may be produced. If so, please let me know by PM or by email to my home (see page 82 of TR Action).

Lest anyone be concerned about copyright, Castrol granted permission for reproduction by the TR Register of the lubrication charts on all TR models for the benefit of our members, and Jo has a copy of that letter.

Ian, have you heard anything from the office about adding these to the shop? I sent them an email after your post, but as I've come to expect from them, I've heard nothing back.

Don, the ladies in the office were having some time off after the NEC Classic Motor Show, our biggest show event of the year here in the UK. I have no doubt they are catching up on emails, they get a lot but you can find them here:

Thanks, Wayne. The TR2-3 one wasn't in the shop when I looked the other day -- only the TR4-4A version. I'm glad they've updated it -- I'm going to be in the UK in a couple of weeks and I'll be able to have a copy sent to my friends for local collection.

I have a copy of Mike Hado's (VTR) most excellent wiring diagram on my garage wall, and that Castrol lubrication chart will make a nice companion piece.

The TR2/3 version was on sale for the very first time at the NEC Show, alongside the TR4/4A version.

In addition to the set-up on Thursday, Jo and Sue were on duty all 3 days of the Show - as Wayne says, they are due some time off!

I picked up the TRR laminated version of TR2-3B Castrol lubrication chart last weekend during a visit to the UK. Approximately A3 sized, PE laminated, full-color (and pre-patinated from a worn original copy, distinctly more yellowed than the photo shown in the webshop listing).

Pretty good value at £4.50 plus about £2 postage. (note that my two copies were shipped flat within the UK, not in the poster tube noted on the TRR shop website)

Both the TR4/4A and TR2/3 charts were copied, with written permission from Castrol, from the originals in my possession, which have been kept in my filing cabinet for some 45 and 52 years, respectively, so should not have faded appreciably.

As to the colour of the print versus the webshop, I can say only that the copies I saw at the NEC Show in November looked pretty true to my originals, but it's correct that my TR2/3 version shows minor evidence of my use in the 1960s (but only minor, and the marks in no way obscure the data).

I'm hoping still that someone will have a Castrol chart for the 6-pot TR and will be willing to make it available to the club so that it may be reproduced for the benefit of other members.

The Gulf lubrication chart is available for download in the Bonanza Collection of reference articles and books in this same section (General Technical).

Ian, this is very helpful!

Question: could you post here a higher resolution photograph?

When you try to read it close up, the letters break up.

David- not Castrol but see the ninth post on this old thread:

Thanks, Rob!

Svenjuhe's? Gulf?

That is the one I have added to "Bonanza Collection" recently. In General Technical. I would like to also add the Castrol. You never know, maybe it is clearer.

Meantime, I shall add the French lubrication chart, since it looks helpful in list format.

Attached is the TR4/4A lube chart.

I don't have a scanned version of the TR2/3 chart and it is too large for me to undertake a scan at home.

However, according to my posting dated 16 November 2015, the Office should be able to supply either chart, so worth asking.

Thanks very much, Ian!

Actually, this is legible enough. The text does break up a bit, but you can still read it. I have downloaded it and put it in Bonanza Collection after the Gulf chart and renumbered the items from there on to the end.

David,

If you PM me, giving your email address, I'll send it direct - this might produce a better copy.

Ian Cornish

Sure! Will do that now. Then I shall upload from there. I have a note in Bonanza Collection saying a top quality print is available from the Register Office.

I know first hand that Gulf Oil International haven't been approached for permission to use branded documents  In Europe and Asia,  copy write in the US is still under discussion

I have so many racks full of car, electrical and plumbing equipment and parts, I have no spare space for such delightful decoration.

Well done, looks really good.

Everything looks so clean - who does the dusting?

I note the TC is above the 3A.The usual TR oil leaks would surely argue against storing the cars the other way round.

Unfortunately they both leak, I have drip trays between the platforms to stop one leaking on the other
