TR4Geoff
Gentlemen, I have recently been tweaking the mixture in my carbs and, whilst I have a Colourtune, I usually give the car a good fast run and then inspect numbers 1 and 4 plugs. Just recently I also looked at numbers 2 and 3 and was surprised to see they are running fractionally richer than numbers 1 and 4 - has anyone else noticed this? Motorsport Mickey
Yes, part and parcel of their charm. Conjoined inlet manifold on front and rear cylinders slight variations can be excepted and accepted. Mick Richards Edited July 10, 2015 by Motorsport Mickey
TR4Geoff
Thanks Mick - I'm beginning to think my TR might have more "charm" than most! Geoff
Motorsport Mickey
Geoff, Are you doing an "ignition chop" when testing ? as said good fast run and then whilst not stopping cut the ignition (you need to have a space in front you can coast into !) and then check the plugs, it will give as an accurate a plug colour as can be got. At least 2 and 3 running slightly rich shouldn't break anything or give any problems. Conversely adjusting 2 and 3 to a leaner mix will obviously cause 1 and 4 to go weaker, it's all a matter of degree. Mick Richards
TR4Geoff
Mick, Thanks for the thoughts, reckon I'll stay where I am for the moment. As for the "ignition chop" - my test run is usually on part of the M25 at an appropriate time - so maybe I'll have to move the test track! Cheers Geoff
