Diff mounting bracket and other stuff...

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, am so excited about the work being done on Betty I thought I would share some before and after photos with you. The gear oil leak turned out to be the wrong fibre washer fitted, cost 70p and hours and hours of angst for me! The knock turned out to be a cracked diff mount and mounting bracket plus I'm having 4 new UJ's fitted. So if she knocks after that I will eat my hat!

Am taking part in an 80 mile road rally on Sunday organised by Kelvedon Rotary so will have her back in time. They are going to make it an annual event so put a note in your diaries for next year.

As far as I can work out the Toyos I bought manufacture date is June 2014, a year old already!

Seems I can only upload one photo, oh well

Hi Christine,

good news on the oil leak and the diff mount. Never mention eating your hat !!! Didn't somebody promise that in the recent elections

You may need to remove some old photos to get new ones posted. You only have 1.9Mb of space. Reduce the pic size to 100Kb.

Good luck on the run.

Roger

PS - you posted whilst I was writing. The diff bracket couldn't be cracked in a better place - easy repair.

Hi Christine, welcome to the Cracked Diff Mount Club, I suspect that just about every Stanpart IRS chassis either has that crack, has that crack repaired, or is about to have that crack!!, it's just what they do!! and once one mount has gone the others are put under greater strain. Simply welding the crack up will work quite well for a while but it is better to have the pins and brackets replaced and the whole things boxed in, (there is a kit of parts for this from the usual suspects) though this involves quite a lot of work, so something to think about in the future.

Cheers Rob

Hi Roger, repairs coming along nicely, just got to hope the o/d will start working again, I believe there's air in the system since all the old oil has been cleaned out, fingers crossed. couple of bump stops, I think they're called, need to be replaced, by some large springs. Hope to collect her tomorrow if all goes well.

Hi Rob, it seems there is always a sting in the tail...I will certainly take on board what you say, i don't do high milage and drive her gently so fingers crossed that will be it for a while. In the meantime I will read up on the Cracked Diff Mount Club!

Hi, Its an inaugural Classic Car Rally, Kelvedon Rotary are running it from Feering and back, 80 miles, in 3 legs with 2 clues at each leg/way-point. If succesful they will run it again next year, for charity of course.

Its in conjunction with 200th anniversary of Moores Brothers Buses
