Koni, Gaz or Spax

Recommended Posts

Guys

Would value your opinion on 'best' shock absorbers for my 6, as for the use the car will get, think my pure racing days were behind me now, might do the odd track day or hill climb but thats about it.

I'm going to change the 'type 2' alloy rear telescopic conversion kit for a 'type 3' one http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-RR1404

But can't decide on what shocks to use front and rear.

Many years ago (20) I fitted Spax to the front but found the ride very 'choppy' no matter how I changed the setting, so changed to Koni's and found a huge improvement in ride quality, but clearly things will have moved on in 20 years !

Many Thanks Graham

I didn't like the Spax dampers at front, have kept them at back though. I bought Protech shocks for front, seems to have better ratio between "bounce/rebounce"

Hi graham

I have spax all round,I also have the Racetorations rear conversion.it bolts in the same place as the leaver arms and no drilling into the body work.

Had this on the car for the past 6years

Very please with the way the 6 handles ????????

A standard TR6 ain't no racing car! But if you just want to ride over Speed Humps and our rubbish underfunded pot holed roads without shaking your car to bits or your fillings rattlin in yer teeth I've found the KYB GR-2 Gas Shocks are miles better than any Spax or Armstrongs that I ever had on the front of my car before!

+1

I got KYB on the front and standard Armstrong at the back, have not driven that much and cant really compare to what was there before as the suspension was totally worn out but I was actually surprised how well it rides now, the KYB gas shocks seems to be good!

Just driven the CTM koni conversion 1000 miles over the weekend as part of the spa classic trip. All seemed pretty good and the roads were awful at times. Only issue was with the bracket coming loose but sorted with a new spring washer.

Dear Tim,

Its a common complaint that these mountings come loose. If you use longer bolts on the main two fixings, then add a nut or nylock nut they will not come loose again.

Good idea. In fact my uncle who has them suggested same (he was riding with me when it came loose)
