TR3A windscreen top rubber

Recommended Posts

The top rubber on windscreen js in need of replacement. It would appear

relatively straightforward to remove old one and fit new one. It looks as if it can be done in situ. is there anything to watch out for and /or need to be aware of? Thanks in anticipation. John

You'll have to trim the edge so that they sit nicely next to the stanchion. Do not be tempted to cut it off directly after installing. You have to pull the rubber when you install it. It's a little too long after you've installed it. After a while it will 'shrink' i.e. return to its original size. Cut the edges after a few days.

Depending on where you buy it from you may find that you have to ease the "T" section into the groove all the way along with a blunt screw driver as it wont just slide in as per original. If you have a hardtop then the seal will need trimming on the rear edge to go round the mounting brackets. As stated dont trim the ends until it has settled for a week then carefully trim to suit the top ends of the stanchions.

Bob. I have already bought a new top rubber in readiness to fit. It was from Rimmers, and looks absolutely fine. More experienced members may have other suppliers in mind. All the best. John

Got all my windscreen seals from the TR shop. No problems fitting, but take your time, & as mentioned above, the rubber will (need to) stretch when fitting, so make sure it has all gone back to it's final length before trimming.

Fitting the rubber can be a pain, 2 suggestions to help

1) Lube with liquid soap

2) make an insertion tool from a small screwdriver, say around 5 '' long, so that the end of the handle is snug on the palm of your hand with your fingers extended to grip just short of the tip. Grind the tip to an angle off square of say 45 deg, and smooth and polish the ground end.

Engage one side of the rubber T and shove a little at a time the other side, be patient, keep having a break, may take up to an hour or so.

I never streach rubbers, (if you see what I mean,) then they don't shrink back.

cheers, good luck

Hi John, this is one of the jobs that I have successfully completed, so it must be easy !

I left mine 10-14 days to shrink, then clamped it down with a hardtop !
