Gearbox identfication?

Recommended Posts

My, supposed rebuilt, gearbox has given up after 4000 miles. Among other problems, disintegrating bushes and case hardened washers that were ground down to fit and weakened as a result. Then there's the overdrive ...what turns out to be a Triumph 2.5PI unit that has had a rear case and solenoid bracket swapped to make it look like a TR

It has a lot of brass going through the whole unit and whoever did it last time left an extra piston ring floating about under the accumulator assembly. It seems it's a mongrel gearbox. Can anyone identify it from the numbers stamped on the casing 306812 SM V 2947.
