Hi,

Can anyone help I need a boot lid for my TR4.

I have tried Walter and the company in Devon.

This is the last panel for my restoration the car will be complete.

Thanks Maggie

Maggie,

If your still stuck, I have a 4A boot lid that is in reasonable condition except for the bottom 4 inches, but also have an original stanpart repair panel (which came from Walter) that would replace the corroded area. I don't have the frame, it's just the skin. Let me know if you need any more details.

The other alternative is to buy a new skin from Bastuck, which I decided to do in the end as I'm not a good enough welder to make a good quality repair myself. The new skin cost just under £500 including VAT and shipping, which by the time I'd paid a body shop to do the repairs to my old one seemed worth it. It was an excellent fit and a very good quality panel.

Hi Maggie,

Moss do the skin (probably Bastuck) and it is nigh on £800 :o:o . The inner frame is £160 ish.

You would do better seeking a secondhand lid and get it repaired.

I notice that the Moss repair panel for the boot lid is £299 :o:o:o It makes mine at £45 sound quite feeble.

Here's a big +1 for Rogers TR4 boot lid repair panel.

I've not yet fitted mine but comparing against my boot lid it looks spot on, and Rogers pricing is so reasonable it would allow extra money to go to a professional panel man to fit if you couldn't manage it yourself.

I have already offered Maggie the bastuck item but over budget :(

Hi Maggie,

the budget alternative is fibreglass, both Honeybourne Mouldings and Smith & Deakin offer boot lids . . . . . and with frame if required too.

Having checked out both companies' products in years gone by, the boot lid is of decent enough calibre.

Cheers

Alec

Hi Maggie,

that would be me. I am just a member that tinkers.

I can make the repair section for the 4/4A/5 boot lid. It is the full width and apprx 4" tall - any more than that and it becomes a bit serious.

if you can't fit it (requires cutting/welding/ and to quote Richie Benaud "10% skill) I could do it (assuming it is do'able).

Have you got any pics of your boot lid - what are the problems with it.

Are you in the UK - where abouts.

Hi Maggie,

He's posted at post #8 above as RogerH, he's typically very modest but turns out good work whatever he does (mmmaaaayybe he needs to work at his painting), and as an ex BAE man he's good at working metal. If you want to contact him click on his photo ( don't laugh at his chicken hat) and send him a PM (Personal message) for further info.

Hi Roger,

Did not realise it was you. I also used to work for BAE ( Marconi ) in Essex. I was a electronics designer.

The boot lid is at the restorers. I will take pics on Mon and ask Tim Wellock what exactly is the problem.

I live in Chard Somerset.

Thanks Maggie
