looks half decent and quite complete if it makes a sensible price

claimed matching numbers, nice colour and valuable factory options

immaculate passenger grab handle suggests reasonably careful previous use

aftermarket seats and steering wheel but otherwise might be relatively unmolested

PS. the towbar doesn't count as a valuable factory option

Paul,

I noticed that car a few days ago and had the same

thoughts as you - specifically on the condition of the

passenger grab rail.

Seems like such a small point but, as you say, very

indicative of its care over the years.

Unless he was either unsociable and/or seldom carried

passengers!

Plus - original crankcase breather system complete

and in fair nick.

I have inspected this car (it's not mine btw!!) The car also has an A Type overdrive fitted. The inner rear wings, front inner wings and shell is remarkable condition, floors lovely a very unmolested project. The towbar is hideous but the chassis looks really good. It was last on the road in 1977 when it was parked away. There is lots to love about the car and It was apparently running last september when the vendor moved it from one barn to another (to get it away from his ex wife!) they apparently connected a local fuel supply (can) and it fired up! The number plate, which I'm told is a middlesex?? 1953 plate must have been put on the car in the 70's as the original number plate is detailed on a grubby invoice found in the glovebox - B plate.....

What will it make - who knows, I suspect it may settle between £8k - £10k?? Any guesses....

The condition of this TR4 being so good, with the Overdrive and Surrey top is just what the enthusiast is looking for.

Especially in a mainly original condition, seats and sundries excepted, its a rarity. looking at the imports that are out there at 5 6 and more K, I think your 10K estimate may be exceeded.

But prices are always surprising, I looked at what had sold there in the recent past and was amazed at the price of the to me, awful micro cars!

I have renovated a few TR's but an original one like this is unique. Factory finish I think is unattainable.

If I didn't already have my 4A I'd be all over this one.

Check original colours (probably already correct) but it may well have been resprayed before as stillp suggests.

Check the doors, bonnet and boot close correctly.

UK supplied, matching numbers, wires, overdrive and Surrey Top.

Careful strip and reassemble with cellulose respray and correct interior.

Everything could be done by a competent amateur, even me, except the final paint.

You have a £25k car, and more importantly, you have a car you can enjoy every day of the year.

This is EXACTLY what I would want as a starting point.

The quote "You have a £25k car, and more importantly, you have a car you can enjoy every day of the year" may well be something of an understatement, given the rarity of sypathetically brought back to the road cars such as this.

Would I want the reponsibility of restoring it? No, as I dont follow the "patina" brigade.. Would I like to covet it? Yes.

Agreed has to go to a sympathetic home. Very tempting!

Should the new owner wish to keep the car much as it is,

and do light restoration only, I have a set of original TR4

seats and trim in excellent condition that would be the

ideal replacement for those bucket seats.

(unless, Pete, you still want them)

As the 2nd owner of a '66 4A, (bought in Sept. 79) whoever is lucky enough to get this beast, I'd say keep it as original as possible. Mine's got as of this afternoon 11038miles on the clock, mot's to back it up, with new tyres, (the original ones had perished), new exhaust, (the original silencer, cross box, had rusted from inside out) & new front brake calipers (the original had seized beyond repair) everything else as it came out of the factory. Yes the car does occaisionaly get driven, usually to get its mot & 1 charity show in Kenilworth, plus the owner gets a lot of earache from 'er indoors, (you think more of that car etc) I think there's more turtle wax on it than paint!

If I thought I could get away with it with SWBO, I am very tempted by the blue Alfa Guilietta Spider on the same auction site. I had a 1600 version in the early 70s - beautiful car even if it did leak like a sieve and rust away while you looked at. Went like stink for what it was and handled like a dream.

Could someon identify the make of spot lamp on this car?

They seem to fit "just right"

Peter,

They look like Lucas 576 spotlamps.

Cheers

Might be like these... (Possibly Lucas Pathfinder)

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C487662

I've got a pair of the one on the left in the pic; came with my '250 in 2002 and have been placed into storage following road debris breakage and a very fortunate find on ebay of a replacement lens. They were never wired in, just looked pretty so I have no idea how well they light the way.
