BillS
Just bought a 4 into 2 manifold, any idea how much exhaust wrap I need to cover it? Thanks
RogerH
Hi Bill, None - get it ceramic coated. Roger
Fireman049
Hi Bill ~ If you can't or don't want to get it ceramic coated then please PM me your eMail address and I'll show you how I insulated mine. I have exactly the same manifold as you on my 3A. Tom.
pfenlon
When I wrapped my exhaust I bought some stainless steel tie wraps to hold the material together after wrapping. I have loads of them left over if you need any, FOCharge of course..
Guest
Hi Bill, None - get it ceramic coated. Roger I agree. Somewhere in the back of my mind sits a conversation that I had with a guy who complained about wrapping the manifold of his Spitfire. Under the wrap, it started to decay/rot and he was left with nothing. I can not recall what happened exactly, but it was enough for me to unwrap my car's... At that time ceramic coating was not really introduced. Nowadays I would opt for that. However, if you insist in getting wrap, do your homework! There's a company near my house that rents out mobile industrial power generators (Bredenoord Power - Europe's largest mobile power generator seller/rent). I went to their workshop and got enough wrap for a mummy. The total outlay was a crate of Grolsch beer on Friday afternoon. I am sure you can find a similar source as well. stuart
With a standard steel one I wouldnt wrap it because as stated it will shorten its life. A heat shield and some VHT paint will do fine. Stuart.
oldtuckunder
If you are wrspping then this thread may be of interest, I just updated with results of my choice after a year. http://www.tr-register.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/45713-exhaust-headermanifold-wrap/?hl=%2Bexhaust+%2Bwrap Alan
BillS
Got a quote for ceramic coating and I am going with . . . . Stuart. I found a TR4A inlet manifold in the garage, thought I would also use this, as it looks easier for the petrol/air to get where it needs to be. Thoughts welcome Bill
stuart
The 4a inlet manifold is generally reckoned to be the best of all so good choice though you will need a blank for the PCV inlet port unless you intend to use it. Stuart.
