sadman
Hi all, I've had my 4A since September '79 & a Register member since soon after buying it. Anyway I've somehow lost ignition & boot keys, & have managed to get ignition keys cut from numbers on ignition switch barrel but can't see any for boot handle/lock. As you all may gather I don't drive car much, it gets lots of TLC tho' having just clocked 11000 miles from new, much to my wifes' annoyance! (you think more of that car than me etc) Has anyone any ideas please or do I find a friendly locksmith? Doug
RogerH
Hi Doug, Welcome to the forum. would your boot key have fitted the driver door lock. If so and you want an adventure, then the lock barrel should have the number stamped on it. All you have to do is Remove the handle (strip the door down to get access). If you strip the handle down remember how it goes back together. There is a little brass pin that will need knocking. Then the barrel will just fall out - simples. It is common on US cars for the Boot and glove box to be different form the ignition and door lock - for attendant parking. sadman
Thanks Roger, the ignition key fits the door lock rather than the boot key, but will try glove box lock over weekend. Doug

Don H.
My car's original key numbers were noted on my BMIHT certificate. if you haven't changed the locks, that might be an option. With the number, the key guys can easily give you a key -- even an original one if you like.
graeme
Hi Doug and welcome to the Forum. If your car is original, you may try removing the RH side rear lamp assembly and looking for spare keys attached to the wiring in the lamp housing. I kid you not!! Alternatively the Heritage certificate may have the key Nos on as suggested by Don. Cheers Graeme Edited March 21, 2015 by graeme
sadman
Thanks for your suggestions,I'll give them a go. Regards, Doug
stuart
If its the original handle remove the boot handle and the key number is stamped on the shaft. The glove box lock which should be on the same key doesnt have the number stamped on it unfortunately. Stuart.

sadman
Hi all, I did what Stuart suggested, the number was stamped onto the boot handle spindle, got 2 keys cut today at local cobblers, they work perfectly. Thanks again. Doug
