I don't usually take my Triumph out on a hot day, but I had to take it out on a 40C day a couple of weeks ago, which included a short run on the freeway.

With an electric fan installed, it maintained 1/2 way mark on the temp gauge doing around 60km/hr.

However, once I got on the freeway at 100km/hr the temp jumped to 3/4 very quickly. It only came down to 1/2 when I got off the freeway and back to 60km/hr.

I have the cardboard radiator valance installed.

Is it just a case of too much wind pressure at higher speeds in front of the grille, reducing the flow of air thru the engine bay?

At 100kph on the flat the engine will be working at a bit over double the power at 60kph.

So the rad has to dissipate heat twice as fast to keep gauge constant.

Try it on a long steep hill where it will use serious hp.

Mine runs over half even on cool days - the thermostats might be different.

I'm not sure on the thermostat specs, no issues there.

I was just curious about the odd behavior, as I had not noticed it before.

Graze, I'm hopeing the scorchers are over for the summer. You are probably getting all our hot weather..........
