Over the winter I found the block main bearings out of round.
Today the machine shop phoned that the crank is running again.
So engine assembly is short before.

To calm the rear end of the IMSA TR8 I get some custom build dampers for the rear axle made by Spax Performance Ltd.

The were very helpful to find me the right damper and now building them.

If all goes right the first race can come.

I sharpen the knife for the BMW M1 ProCars and hopefully can keep up with them.

Cheers

Chris

You are quite right with the cars.

The fastest ones are:

#8 Pontiac with 700hp

#50 Porsche K3

#63 Lola T70

They are out of range for me but I hope for the M1 cars....maybe there is a chance if I get the rear end under control and the bias ply tires working right.

2 mistakes at one rebuild?

Sounds strange, crank not unexpected due to what I had to read earlier

but the cam is normally not that problem if run in properly.

Would be very interested in details!!!!

Will you be back for Spa Summer Classics?

Always a wonderful event even with that bad weather

would be something missing without that car......

I was talked over to use Lucas oil stabilistor in this engine.

I filled in 2 cans of that stuff to about 12-15L of oil.

The viscosity of the Lucas stuff is so high, like frozen honey.

Maybe it didn't like to get trough the little feeding holes on the tappet foot = lack of oil on the camshaft?

For those who don't know the company, Lucas Oil Products, Inc. is an Indianapolis, Indiana, USA-based company supplying all kinds of specialty oil products for automobiles.

Not the "Lucas" that may first come to mind for some on the forum.

PS: This may be the "technical data sheet" -- their term -- for the product you used, Christian. Frankly, the quality of the English in writing this is awful. It doesn't make the product look very impressive.

I had an automotives professor at university for one of the "fun" courses in my last year, and I still remember Doc Schraeder calling all those kinds of products "gas house drip", generally referring to any distillation fraction that didn't have a clear use being rebranded as some sort of special additive. It's colored my thinking about those things to this day...

As normal engines do not have that it is not that necessary.

I do not use Lucas but ZDDP or other adds to oil like Comp break in.

Also a little bit like honey, close to gearbox oil....

The engine needs that and so the other marque hopefully will be okay and add ZDDP.

The lobes failed? More than one?

Take tappets out to the bottom, they tend to spread....

Was it a new cam? Some are bad quality, had a Comp that failed after 5000Km.

It was an used cam with 4 years of racing on it, also the tappets.

All parts looked like new when installed.

Hopefully tappets and lobes are paired and marked together.

Otherwise they tend to fail in the Rover by eating each other

as this happens also when used cam or tappet is paired with new items.

Rover is there a bit nasty and the TVR boys often changed

only tappets because that is easier and after short time both was damaged.....

They are specialists for cam failure because they use cheap cams, have higher revs,

harder springs and need proper tappet preload that nearly none has ex works....

Valve clearance not correct for your exotic cam?

Oil pressure low?

With non hydraulic tappets and crank oil pump 5-6 bars seems nice.

Anyway very sorry for that......

The engine is now outside the car.

I've pulled the right head and found #6 touching the head slightly.

The camshaft looks very dry. I think the Lucas additive blocked cam lubrication from the tappet foot.

Some debris visible.
