Hi all, I have just fitted my gearbox and thought my solution might be useful. After struggling trying to get the spline entered with a lot of jiggling I removed the box and had a think. The problem seemed to be there wasn't much forgiveness in the end of the spline and the disk, so I took a grinder ( I know! ) and put a small shoulder on the end of each spline ( careful there ). I put the gearbox back in place and with a bit of a jiggle it went home. It went in so sweet I thought there must be something wrong ! I don't know if this has been mentioned before but I hope it helps.

Regards

Ron

Hi Ron,

Certainly a good idea. Don't be afraid of grinding a bit: removing some material at places where they are not needed but only hinder smooth assembly does only improve the system. I am doing this since I have a Dremmel, but not telling it to friends who insist on "originality".

What a good idea: I'm guessing the front of the spline ends up a little bit beyond the friction plate centre anyway.

As my gearbox is on the bench in bits now, I'll add that to the ever increasing list of jobs! Many thanks.
