ronhatch
Hi all, I am renewing all the brake lines on a TR4 and have taken off the restrictor valve, I read somewhere that these are not always fitted and I notice they are not available from Moss. I am fitting a servo so is the restrictor necessary and if so where can I get one ? Regards Ron
RogerH
Hi Ron, not required. If you have one fitted then you can simply take the innards out and use the body. If you haven't one then simply re-pipe without it. Why the servo? The brakes work very well without one. Roger
Fireman049
Hi Ron ~ Roger is quite right. I removed the innards of my restrictor and used the body as an adaptor. Tom.
ronhatch
Hi all, thanks for the replies, I will re-pipe without it. As for fitting the servo, I could use the old excuse, my wife will drive the car at times etc. etc. but the truth is at this stage in life I want to have an easy and uneventful time as poss so I am adding as many upgrades as I can. But in a nod to the original spec I am going to attempt to start the engine initially, on the original plugs and coil just to see if they can still fire up and then I will change to the latest spec. Just a quirk but then so is attempting to rescue a pile of rust and turn it into a roadworthy car, I love it!
TR 2100
The restrictor, with the innards removed, can be a useful way of creating a bit more distance between the brake pressure switch and a 4-branch exhaust. AlanR
lynchpin
Hi The subjects of servo"s yes or no, and the brake valve have been done before, when I was trying to solve a problem with the front n/s caliper snatching and binding it turned out to be the brake valve sticking and keeping the pressure on to the front end.I believe its function is to stop the pads knocking back after braking which causes a low peddle initially on next use. I simply stripped it out cleaned and reassembled it and it now works fine. The car came with a brake servo which failed after a couple of years after being used to it I didn"t like it without and replaced it, but as i said its personnel choice.. Phil..
