What are the Engine Numbers for TR3B

Recommended Posts

From early 62 TR3B have TR4 engine 2138cc...if this is the case then it's a TR3B number, well if my logic is right

Edit: well, more or less right assuming that chassis and engine use the same prefix

1962 (May)
TCF1 First w/TR4 engine

1962 (Oct)
TCF2804 LAST TR3B

My car, TSF202L, has engine TSF52E. The guideline that engine numbers should be ahead of commission numbers doesn't really apply to 3Bs.

A TCF engine should be a 2138 cc displacement for the TCF series of TR3Bs, as noted

Don,

Out of curiosity, what is the build date of your early TR3B?

Reason is that TR3As were selling very very slowly at the

end of production and stocks were adequate to supply the

demand for many months after production stopped.

Also, it's easy to see the similarity between the prefixes

used for 3As (TS) and early 3Bs (TSF) compared with the

TCF for later 3Bs and the CT used for TR4s.

Alan, my car was built on April 12, 1962.

I read the TSF-TCF prefix naming exactly the same way you do. Although one doesn't see this talked about very offen it seems perfectly reasonable logic. Note that my car's BMIHT build certificate states it was built with a rationalized gearbox. It has a TSF-stamped full-synchro 'box, the three-synchro gearbox presumably having been rationalized out of production by then.

Hello, if you have a TR3B and would like to add it to my friend , Gert, in Germany who is compiling a list of remaining B cars, send me an email to put you in touch.  He has over 600 so far.  I own two B cars  TCF2156L and TCF120L  Thx, Rich

Gert and I communicate often on the subject of TR3Bs.
