Lucas 700 Headlights

Recommended Posts

I am looking for your best advice as to what's possible, for a pair of what look to be 1955 originals,

that are very tatty. The front edges of the bowls are badly corroded and the silvering is showing it's

age.

I would like to refurbish and upgrade.

Hi

Martini Motors will refurbish these with re silvered reflectors and rechromed bodies, but really not cheap so you need to want to do this. If you do choose to do so, I would recommend them as they have done precious some original 'VC' TR4 bits for me and did a great job and more importantly got them back in my hands safely.

Regards

Tony

The guys at Genius of the Lamp restored the original head badge from my TR3B. The end result was quite nice.

The process of getting there wasn't quite so nice. Took a long time, which is OK for something not essential (I have a red/black badge I'm running on the car anyway) and just before they were to post the badge to me they dropped it and damaged the new enamel. They felt restoring it a second time with fired glass might not be possible and recommended epoxy enamel. No go. Told them to take their chances and we'd pitch the thing if polishing it down again took away too much material.

In the end, they made it work and the craftsmanship is super, but I'm kinda lukewarm about sending them anything else.
