TR5tar Posted October 1, 2014 Report Share Posted October 1, 2014 Looking at this rather pricey TR5 for sale on Ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-TR5-/311104939646?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item486f4ca67e - I noted the silver trim where the wings meet the bonnet and realised that mine doesn't have it. However I note the one on ebay has no trim at all (as far as I can see ) just below the doors from front wing to behind the B post which should be in chrome/SS. I dont have a problem with the price of this car IF and only IF I knew that the engine, gearbox , overdrive, diff, drive shafts, brakes, suspension, fuel system, etc etc had been renewed in the last few (very last few) thousand miles but it seems to say nothing about that (except the mileage at 88K ) nor are there any piccys of the engine bay ... I wonder why. Also I note apart from the observations above it still seems to be fitted with the CAV filter not really compatible with the bosch pump I think. Its clearly not a concourse original offering but perhaps a modified concours, nothing wrong with that, you build what you like but ... I would want to see the bills for the mechanics as well as looking at just a good paint job if that is indeed what it has.... I agree with the faults that have been highlighted above, I would add it appears to have correct instruments but with chrome bezels not black, unless its a photo reflection, door pulls are wrong, but from a 4a and very sensible addition from the stupid moulded plastic tr5 door top pulls. The dash is incorrect too but like I said its what the restorer perhaps wanted, and the essence here is that the seller ( a trader) maybe doesn't know or care about absolute concourse (neither do I btw) but I think it will find a buyer at pretty close to the price unless it really has done 88K with no mechs rebuilt in which case it will be on sale for a very long time .. I assume that rivets are involved but I wonder if it's possible to fix with double sided tape? My wing to bonnet strips are also unpainted. Is it that important? Thanks for any replies, Graeme. The lower strips are held on by clips that are riveted so you could replace them but as a restorer I can tell you they create a rust spot. You could attach with double sided tape in fact that is a good idea but look at the strip and you will see there is not much that the tape can stick to. You could fill the strip with expanding foam or resin wood filler (like araldite) which would create a suitable surface to the tape to grip. You will also note the strip is stainless steel and polishes up very nicely. Keep the wing bead shiny, it looks nice and will never chip!
