Drain tube from vent

Recommended Posts

Ian - Since the upper end is centered above the heater assembly you might be able to slide the end of the black rubber tubing onto the end if you can visualize this with your eyes closed. In my LH drive 1958 TR3A, the lower end of this rubber tube comes out the firewall behind the rear carb and below the starter solenoid. The black one is from my very early TR3A while the green one is from a post-60000 TR3A - both LH drive cars.

Take long phillips type screwdriver, insert it till about two inches or length of tube from the end, tape the screwdriver to the hose, grease the end and push onto the pipe from the vent. Pull the tape off after fitting, hold the end of the pipe and pull out the screw driver. Job done!

The stiffness of the screw driver should provide enough purchase, if really floppy tube stick the lot in the freezer for a few and just before fitting warm the end a bit.

Should work!

Just had to do this job.

Up the side from the passenger footwell. Lots of upside down and reaching. The heater hoses definitely get in the way.

Have a good look before you start and open the vent lid to let more light in if needs be.

Big dop of KY on the rubber tube and fiddle the thing into position on the tray drain. Took a few goes but did it in the end. Perhaps another person's hand through the vent lid hole would also help to guide the thing.

The KY will wash away leaving the hose on the tray drain tube.
