ronhatch
Hi all, when I acquired my restoration project (various piles of rusty metal, but I was an optimist in them days) it came with a soft top and a fibreglass top. I intend to use it with the soft top but is it worth spending the time getting the fibreglass top into a usable condition. By this I mean is it possible to fix it to the car with some sort of latch or similar system or will I be wasting my time. A surrey top would be nice but the prices are getting ridiculous even for tatty ones, are there no after market ones ?, could the register not commission someone ? Any thoughts are welcomed and appreciated as usual. Regards Ron
TRnorm
Hi Ron, Try searching the forum for Honeybourne and their website - as they do a Surrey arrangement, as well as a one-piece hardtop. I'm seriously considering this myself. Regards Norman http://www.honeybournemouldings.co.uk/
TorontoTim
I have run a Honeybourne one-piece hard top on my TR4 when rallying it. Although I haven't had it on for a little while, I can recommend it. It isn't as neat in terms of actual fittings as the original, alloy backlight etc., and I wouldn't put it on and off on a daily basis depending on the weather. But it looks good (IMO), fits pretty well and does a good job if you want a hard top. Others know more about the two-piece version - Stuart, for example.
Geko
I've got the HB lid temporarily fitted on the alloy backlight frame awaiting for my custom-made alloy. It does the job and is easy to fit and remove once you've sorted the windscreen rake angle which is another matter altogether. It's affordable but should be considered as RAW material: hardware, rain channels, seals and flocking aren't really up to the job and they don't provide the rear SS strip which is nearly impossible to find. Anyway, it should be taken for what it is: a cheap roof over your head. HB staff is very friendly and helpful and they can do the installation. 3 weeks manufacturing time Got plenty of pictures, if interested PM me your email
