BillS
I own a 59 3A which I plan to do some work on bodywise. Where the rear quarter panel, ie attached to the B post, meets the saddle there is no seam showing where these two panels join. On my post 60k series there was a seam. I had thought earlier cars did not show the seam, is this correct? Thanks, Bill
TR24178
No seams on TS4178
Bob Smith
Bill, On pre TS60000 cars the join you describe was I believe lead loaded in the factory. This had the effect of disguising it.
boggie
Our post 60K car had a seam on the nearside but not the offside. We stripped it back to metal when prepping the body for paint and found that the seam had been leaded! I researched and found (as above) that the pre-60K were leaded but the post not. Gentle application of a torch and a wet shammy means now we have seams on both sides. Edited September 10, 2014 by boggie
