Nick Clark
Hello, I recently had a new clutch fitted to my TR4, and have not driven it much since then. On a couple of recent blasts I discovered that OD second is not working. It works fine in 3rd and 4th gears. My garage is at a loss as to why it should work in 3rd and 4th, but not second. I should add that before the original clutch packed up, OD in second worked. Have any of you got ideas as to the reason for this problem, and what the fix might be?Thanks in advance Nick Clark
BillS
There are two isolator switches located on the top of the gearbox extension, sound like one is working - 3rd and 4th and the other needs investigating. May need a new switch or it could just be a poor connection. Let us know what you find. Cheers, Bill
AlanT
You need to find a garage that knows about TR's!
ianc
Looking at the top of the gearbox cover, the left-hand switch is the isolator for 3rd/4th; the right-hand for 2nd. The Workshop Manual describes how each switch should be set-up. Ian Cornish
Kiwifrog
Looking at the top of the gearbox cover, the left-hand switch is the isolator for 3rd/4th; the right-hand for 2nd. The Workshop Manual describes how each switch should be set-up. Ian Cornish +1 its easy to diagnose and the adjustment can be tempermental, if you have to replace the switch see if you can get a second hand stanpart/leyland one they appear to be better built than some of the alternatives I tried to use on my car cheers Alan Edited September 10, 2014 by Kiwifrog
MRG1965
Agree inhibitor switch on 2nd gear is broken or wire off/broken. Gearbox tunel off, dead easy to test/diagnose.
Nick Clark
Gentlemen, Firstly, let me thank you all for your helpful replies, and a big apology for not replying sooner, the father-in-law passed away so I have been a bit distracted. I gave the garage your feedback, and they admitted they had not realised the TR has OD in second gear! That fact established, they discovered the switch for second gear and sorted the matter out. They didn't charge me for this fix. Thanks for your help, the system works! Kind regards Nick Clark Wessex Group TR4, YCO
