Lee Dutton
http://www.charmansautomotive.co.uk/showroom/57/triumph-tr3a/ Does anyone have any knowledge of this vehicle please? Lee
mike ellis
For that money one would think they could have used TR3A seats and possibly got the same number of lift the dot pegs on each door.
Don H.
Hah! I guess that extra LTD peg would take it to an even £35,000, Mike! Odd fuel line routing to a 1959 TR3A, too. TRIUMPH nameplate on the rear almost looks like it fell off and got caught by the number plate light. I gotta admit I have always liked those earlier clamp-on headlight rims, though. Might have to post that body color-matched gauge panel in the "interesting sidescreen dashboards" thread.
McMuttley
They had a decent looking 4 in there a few weeks ago and more modestly priced. This 3a looks so tidy i think it should be on the 'Women's Forum'
Geko
such an ext(p)ensive resto, yet so many esthetic mistakes: red calipers, brown piping, powder blue dashboard, royal blue carpets,...bit sad Edited August 27, 2014 by Geko
Alec Pringle
Not sure the 'Women's forum' would really appreciate this one . . . . more the kind of colour scheme that belongs outside a high class knocking shop in a resort that's seen the in crowd drift away elsewhere . . . . I'll take that creation with the green dralon interior any day of the week, or even the Munster car . . . . Cheers Alec
Rodbr
Obviously one for those that travel light, you would have to lift luggage out whilst holding boot lid (trunk lid) till you got at the support bracket now fitted to the wheel arch!!!! Hell of a lot of work to get a mediocre result in the way of detail. I am sure that someone will buy it at that price and be very happy till they meet their local group experts. The rocker breather should help with rust proofing as it coats the engine bay with a light film of oil mist Edited August 27, 2014 by Rodbr
McMuttley
Should the rear arch trim panel on my car overlap the open door like that, or is this some fancy draught excluder mod ? I think I now know where the film of oil in my engine bay is coming from !
stuart
Better to not pick holes really and look properly at the pictures first. Though a breather pipe wouldnt go amiss. Stuart.

It's a lovely colour but just TOOOOO shiny for me. PS Or even The Pass of The Cattle in the fog and the mist. Edited August 27, 2014 by SuzanneH

Lee Dutton
Looks like this one is overpriced and not authentic not sure that the colour is right either. Does anyone know of a really good 3a for sale? Missed out on Dave Godwin's silver one that looked good and a reasonable price Regards to all Lee
rhino_mac
Have you looked at John Hodges Powder Blue one in EBay at the moment. Had a drive out in that one a few weeks ago and it flies.

McMuttley
What about mine - ignore everything I have ever said on this forum over the past year, its gorgeous, well built, fast (err well noisy), its got a hardtop (WITH GUTTERS), a soft top, a no top and even a flat top, you can barely see the rusty bits under the paint, its got an airfreshner, new springs and dampers, a new alternator and fan conversion (in the boot awaiting conversion) the wheels don't have too many spokes to clean and ITS SIGNAL RED WIFE NOW THINKS WE NEED A 4 / 4A INSTEAD - AAAAGGGHHHHHH Edited August 28, 2014 by McMuttley
Ashley James
I've got a similar problem. My wife has cancer in her spine and it's too painful for here to ride in mine, so it's in the factory at the moment where I can see it from my office. I love it and the body was restored by a good friend who died in the TT this year, so I don't know what to do. Getting old is a real pain. Ash

jean
Must say this car looks great and I do not understand all the critics. The little faults can be rectified at almost no costs. I like the colour only the interior is a little too bling bling. It's for a sunday cruiser, not for oily fingers what I mostly have. A top restorer will easily put a 50k pound ticket on this restoration. I know one and he is not overcharging As a good practice I always ask Classic car owners to avoid single marque meetings with a nice looking car, Best to have a car that is as non original as possible, like mine, ok to a certain extend. TR whizz kids will spot a nice, original TR at distance, walk straight away to it, and will give, unrequested, unrestricted free flow to their critics It's the best way to demotivate owners and ask them to stay home. Every car has it's positive side, original, nice or shabby, just try to make the owner happy. Rant over Edited August 29, 2014 by jean

Rant over Well said Jean, I had a friend who bought an MGB a few years ago and when he took it to his first club meeting he was so put off by the number of people who told him all the things that weren't correct that he never went again and shortly after sold the car. Unfortunately there are a number of similar 'experts' on this forum all you can do is ignore them - treat it for what it is, a form of bullying. Rgds Ian
Don H.
Bullying a used car dealer? That's a new one for me... This thread started by the op asking for the forum's knowledge about this car. That's what he's getting.
Rodbr
Jean, I would take issue with your assertion that it could be sorted for a "little Money. You would be hard pressed to get much change from £600-£800 for a set of "correct" seats. The other "issues just shouldn't be there on a car with this asking price. Missing ltd fasteners are just not cricket, misiing breather pipe likewise. This is a car dealer selling a truly "stunning example has been beautifully restored and finished car" well there are some faults that shouldn't be there is all. Ian As Don says the original question was knowledge about the car and that was what he got! I take exception to the statement Quote "Unfortunately there are a number of similar 'experts' on this forum all you can do is ignore them - treat it for what it is, a form of bullying." Without the "experts" there would be little point in asking a question during a rebuild or general maintenance of a TR. The experts know when a car has been or there is the potential for clones. The "Experts" point out when a replica or tribute car is not a works car and never was!!!!! "An agreed valuation grade E £34500 to £40k requires Full history and or restoration details, plus proof of awards, impeccable in every detail, including small tools and extras, panel fit, under bonnet detail, trim and underside must be immaculate" (source Towergate requirements for agreed value) Without the "experts" how else would you expect to achieve the results. With a good side screen car now fetching mid £20k and really good one over £30k we are now as owners in a different realm. I feel that your tone is extremely insulting to those "experts" without whom we would be at a loss if they withdrew their knowledge. I have been on the receiving end of what you term as Bullying when asking for advice I supplied a photo to be told the LTD pins were an eighth of an inch too long but all that could be achieved with the crop of poor retro parts. I have an extremely thick skin but did I take offence, certainly not I was only too grateful to have access to such a wealth of knowledge. If you are that thin skinned that constructive criticism hurts then perhaps this isn't the place to air such negative thoughts in respect to "experts". In the main any criticisms are tongue in cheek or at least light hearted. Cheers Rod
Don H.
If the OWNER of that car came here and said "whaddya think of my car", this group would have been supportive and would have taken pleasure in an owner's pride. For someone asking about a car for sale by an apparently unknown third party (and professional used car dealer), our comments are going to be more balanced between plus and minus -- to make sure any prospective purchaser's eyes are open to what they're getting for a LOT of money. In fact, any criticism was remarkably restrained. But then, for all the criticism of us on the TRR Forum, this IS a restrained and respectful group. Some forums are simply aflame with vulgar, personal, crude attacks. Not this one. Edited August 29, 2014 by Don H.
McMuttley
If the Forum 'bullied' that car, then I think it has committed grievous bodily harm and mass murder on more than one occasion. Were they no more than factual points in answer to a question ? (a compliment and question on my part) I sat next to a guy in maths (math for Don) at school. Whilst i struggled in the 60% area (even when cheatin'), he always got around 94-96% as a minimum. However, the mathsematics teacher always criticised him the most as he felt he was clearly capable of getting 100% and was simply making silly and unnecessary mistakes Isn't that what is being said here ? Mine's no concourse minter, but she goes like a rocket, is noisy, throws me around when treated rough and puts a smile on my face at least one weekend a month if I'm lucky.... and I'm not afraid to take her down the pub occasionally. However, she can be high maintenance and costs me a lot. That 3a is very nice if you can afford it, but a bit too classy for me and I'm not sure it would want to come home with me. ....and light blue's a girly colour isn't it Suzie.
