rhino_mac
So my colleague managed to snap one of the spade connectors off the back of my ignition barrel yesterday trying to twist the ammeter (don't ask!) which meant when I went to start the car, it was dead. Fortunately, Triumph put a handy double spade connector on that particular connector so hot wireing it only took about 2 seconds (remind me to buy some form of secondary security device!) and I was able to get home. Having never tried to fix one of these, is it possible to solder the connector back onto the back of the ignition switch? Or is it fubared? It would be a shame to replace it as it's the original and 54 years old! Thanks!
Rodbr
I see no issue about soldering although you need to get it scrupulously clean and support it while you build up the solder. I seem to remember that these are held by a solid copper rivet peened over the connector.
BlueTR3A-5EKT
Had to do this very repair on my car 6 months ago, it is still OK. Yes solder, and as Rod has written it must be clean; remember to use flux, as it not only cleans but acts as an heat sink. Peter W
rhino_mac
Just to report back, I soldered it back on last night. Easiest job I've done in a while to be honest. Not sure why I was worried about it.
