Rubbing sounds on nearside rear wheel

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine has adopted a rubbing sound on the near side wheel of his TR3. He has cleaned out the brake drum but that has not stopped it. When he turns the centre hub he can feel it become stiff in a particular area. Any ideas

Sounds as if it could be a tight wheel bearing, either worn bearing or lack of grease.
I take it that this without drum fitted. Pull cap, remove split pin back off nut and see if stiff area loosens off. pull the hub and check internally for lack of grease, clean and repack with fresh grease. If still the same, change wheel bearings and pack with fresh clean grease after cleaning all components.

If it happens with drum in place could be shoe adjustment and out of alignment shoe rubbing on drum. Look at the shoes and there would probably be highly polished area where contact is permanent.

Difficult to diagnose but these are likely issues.
