keith w
I bought a new TR7 fuel tank from Fitchett's of Telford some time ago now. I've just come to put it into my Grinnall rebuild to find the old tank is specifically a TR8 tank. It has two hole in it, one for the sender assembly and another for the fuel in and out lines. Has anyone found a source of TR8 tanks or have they found a way of using a standard tank?
Alec Pringle
Hi Keith, KEH utilises a standard TR7 tank without problem - the bigger of the Facet pumps supplying a Holley, and the engine putting out around 200 horses at the rear wheels. Probably adequate for your engine also ? I don't have the relevant sender assembly spare, new ones are freely available . . . . but I do have lots of spare instrument clusters if you need the matching fuel gauge - new ones are NLA. By all means come on over for an inspect and a root in the electrical spares cupboards. Beers are on you ! Cheers Alec
AnthonyF
Genuine TR8 twin hole tanks are rare as the proverbial hen's teeth, I doubt you would find a new one anywhere. Don't junk your old tank even if it is rusty. The TR8 tanks came in carb & EFI variations, both with two holes. If yours is a carb car then as Alec says you can use a TR7 tank with the appropriate sender/fuel pick. if it's EFi then it gets a bit more complicated. This guy makes beautiful replacement tanks in alloy for the TR7/8, with a larger capacity which could be useful for the Grinnall http://www.andywiltshire.com/Triumph%20TR%20Tanks.htm
keith w
Thanks for the advice both. I'll stick with the Fitchett's TR7 tank in that case as it's new. The TR8 tank is perforated but I suppose it could be welded by a specialist. Definitely not by me! Alec, beer no problem. I'll be in touch further down the line. Phil Horsley
Hi Keith, if you want it repaired, try Headley Body shop, Newbury, as for Mick, he did a great job on my TR250 tank
