Fireman049
Where can I get a replacement chassis plate with the correct size font stamping? Tom.
foster461
Tom, what are you calling a chassis plate ?. Frank Angelini makes repro brass body tags, the two tags that are screwed to the firewall above the battery.
Fireman049
Hi Foster461 ~ The plate I'm referring to is the one with the chassis number on. Tom.
stuart
Moss and all the other suppliers do them, you will have to stamp it yourself or some of the suppliers will do it for you for a fee. Stuart.
Don H.
Tom, chassis plate is a bit confusing, because there are three or four tags that might be called this. It seems what you're talking about is the commission number plate.
boxofbits
Tom I'd suggest you try MiniMail on the following link. If your commission plate is a typical Leyland one with paint code/ trim code etc, they can emboss them in the correct font and style. You will need a copy of log book etc and they are around £25 including plate. http://www.minimail.co.uk/chassis-vin-plates/
Fireman049
Stuart ~ boxofbits ~ Thank you. Don H ~ you're absolutely right, it is the commission plate! Thanks guy's ~ Tom.

Lebro
Message read, & replied to. Here is one I did earlier: I think I hit the punch a bit hard on the T ! Bob.
Lebro
Tom. Just make sure I get the right one - is yours like mine (large) or is it quite narrow as in rimmers catalogue for the TR3A ? http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID200680 Bob.
Don H.
...quite narrow as in rimmers catalogue for the TR3A ? And note also, Bob, that not all narrow plates are the same. Here's the one from my car, for example. It has the (1959) date like later ones, but it also has a different weight etched into the aluminum. I believe I've seen reproductions of this style but they weren't that good. For a late car, this gets tricky. No shame in using an original comm. no. plate no matter its condition. Note that comm. no. plates were attached with various kinds of fasteners over the years. Early cars (TR2 era) were attached with a drive rivet. Later cars (like my TR3B) were attached with a closed-end aluminum blind rivet.
EdwinTiben
unfortunatley the current reproductions are not exact copies.. Klaus has a nice article on his site about the repros: https://translate.google.nl/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.klaus-sportwagen.de%2Fcontent%2F1100000%2F120800%2F120808.php&edit-text= Have wondered multiple times how repo items just differs in details, allthough doing it right in the first place wouldnt cost anything extra in productin...
