marki
Evening all Here we go then... Had a great day today at the Forde Abbey charity show near Chard in Somerset. Unfortunately the car did not like the day out. Started missing pretty much from the off.then got worse on the motorway seems to almost cut out rather then miss. I stopped disconnected the fuel inertia cut off and thought I'd cured it. Not so although gave it a good ranting down the motorway 85/90 all the way ie 30 mins didn't miss a beat until I got off onto an A road and then we started again. I'll start with the usual suspects coil condenser etc. thought I would throw this one out just in case. Could the fuel pump relay start too fail as it seems too big a miss for plugs etc. Cheers looks like a busy weekend Mark
snowric
did you check fuel pressure and return pipe?
marki
Not yet just dumped him in the garage. Would this not show more at high speed down the motorway ? Mark
RobinTR6
Yes but could be some sort of debris in the system moving about, don't forget rotor arm.I had something similar turned out to be the central contact pin in the dizzy cap sticking.
marki
Thanks Robin I have a feeling it's electrical cutting out. Seems a coincidence it's happened after I altered the wiring to the electric fan. Mark
ijonsson
This looks a lot like when my Lumenition ignition gave up on me. Changed about everything before putting back points and condenser.
marki
No already back on points......
Peter Cobbold
No already back on points...... Then check the gap hasnt closed up. The plastic cam follower wears very rapidly if dry of grease, and retards the spark. Engine will run at higher rpm but stagger at low rpm. Fibre folowers are better, but still need a smidgeon of grease.
peejay4A
If you're concerned about electrical supply interruption to the pump you could run a bit of twin core bell wire back to the pump. Connect it across the pump terminals then connect a lamp at the other end so you can see it whilst driving. The take her out and try to force the symptoms. If the bulb stays lit, it's not the supply. marki
OK Update time Started this morning missing and wanting to cut out. Checked points leads plugs etc all seemed fine. Changed coil still the same, changed the condenser and it would appear hey presto. Just before we went too France this year I had a blocked injector, in my blind panic( had a ferry to catch ) changed points condenser etc. When fitting the old one back in today noticed the mortal words MADE IN CHINA on the box. This is a spare I bought a couple of years ago from either Rimmers or Moss as a spare, why do they steel us such ****. Because we buy it I suppose. Anyway 25 miles later all seems good I'll go out again this afternoon. Straight on to the distributor doctor now so I can buy a real one. Cheers for now Mark

Steves_TR6
I once spent weeks trying to trace a poor running fault on a v8 in a boat........ Condenser! It's one of the first places I look now :-) Steve
