CharlesH
If the head light lift when the master light switch on dash then it is either a faulty steering column switch (less likely) or the head light flash relay (more likely). It the top most relay on left side of fuse box in the glove box. AnthonyF
Is it a UK/European spec car? USA spec cars did not have the headlamp flash function AFAIK. If it is UK/European then check the Pektron flash relay in the fuse box area - small flat black thing with Pektron helpfully written on it. Difficult to test although I have known people who are clever with elecktrickery repair them, probably easiest to fit a replacement.
elclem1
It is uk spec, and does have a pektron fitted but finding a replacement may be tricky NLS. Does anyone know how to check the operation.
Nigel Triumph
I had the same problem recently with headlamp flash on my 7. It turned out to be the Pektron unit. They're not available new as far as I know. I got a tested secondhand unit from S&S Preparations 01706 874874, problem sorted! Nigel
dursleyman
I had a similar problem this week, main and dip all work fine in usual headlamp mode but no flash. Then I noticed a small column of smoke rising from the column stalk when I held it in the flash position. Turns out the contacts were dirty and the bad contact was causing them to overheat. Swapped the stalk to a spare after giving the contacts a good clean and now working perfectly. Might be worth checking the Pektron contacts and that it is plugged in properly. Mine was quite loose and also causing a problem earlier.
elclem1
Hi all, update on the headlight operation. It turns out the flash relay was faulty, once changed everything works fine. Thanks for all of the tips and advice. Andy
