Fitting and refurbishing MGF 15 inch wheels

Recommended Posts

So I'm planning to go on to ebay to get some MGF 15 inch wheels for my Grinnall V8. Views on which ones are best would be welcome, but my main question is where should I go to get them recoated to make them really smart. I'd like them to match the midas gold bodywork.

Best wishes

Al

hi Al,

What's the weight capacity of the MGF wheels will it take the TR weight ? sorry to be boring.

The MGF wheels are a direct fit and seem to be a good easy available method of decent aftermarket wheels.

I have a set of the "minilite" type mgf wheels I use for general every day use on my car.

Some points to note are:

1 you need to get the correct mgf type wheel nuts.

2 if you are looking at getting them powder coated then make sure you are happy that the front wheels fit correctly ( the front fitting is quite tight and needs to be on a "hub centric" setup.

Hope this helps

Regards

Hi Mick,

Don't know what the official weight capacity is but there seem to be a fair few wedge users on MGF wheels of all sorts now. They offer a better tyre choice on several wheel designs and sizes. I have had no reports of any issues with their use.

I'll see what I can find out.

Edit: having done a quick Google search it looks like the MGF is slightly heavier than a TR7/8 so should be ok - but hopefully somebody more informed will add more info.

Regards

Ian

Currently using 15" MGTF square spoke wheels. Fitted with Toyo R888 tyres 215 / 50 rears and 195 / 55 fronts.

They are a tight fit but a rub with wet n dry in bore and a dab of copperslip and they fit well. Cured my front vibration issues at 60mph when i removed the 14" compomotive wheels which were a loose fit on the hub.

The 15" wheels could be up for sale in the coming months when i fit the Hi Spec calipers and might have to go 16" wheels.

regards

keith
