Playing Devil's Advocate - with the honourable exception of the active rally enthusiasts, how many of us drive our TRs anywhere near the limits of modern, medium price tyres? Whatever most of us we choose must be dictated by a compromise between appearance and price. Avoid the el cheapo budget tyres and just enjoy driving - it has to be better than the period tyres available (even in the 70s). TRust me - I've experienced some dodgy moments on expensive tyres considered good in their day and have far more confidence in modern medium price tyres.

Don H - Here's how it looked on Hwy #1 near Kennebunkport in August 1958. Also one of the TR3A in 1960 up Whiteface Mountain near Lake Placid NY.

See for yourself. The paint looked quite good but there were many bare spots underneath and also lots of brownish primer. BTW, the frame was Primrose Yellow. There was quite a lot of orange-peel but no-one at TRA deducts points for orange peel because that was the way it left Coventry "as original". When I got it in May 1958, it came with Dunlop 155-15 Gold Seal fabric bias-ply tyres. Notice how narrow they look in the coloured shot.
