Water Pump Removal

Recommended Posts

Had a quick search but couldn't find anything. Must be there somwhere?

Anyway can you swap the water pump on a TR3 without removing the radiator? Still have the original wide belt and Dynamo fitted.

Put a sheet of cardboard down behind the rad to protect it. Pump comes out easier through the left hand side with the horn and the rad stay removed.

I seem to recollect that the pump is secured using a stud, which is in the block, and two bolts. One of the bolts is very difficult to insert, and I converted to 2 studs and one bolt, making life much easier for myself.

From working on my own cars for over 50 years, I have a considerable collection of old set screws, bolts, studs, nuts etcetera, many of which have proved useful from time to time!

I had a look at my water pump yesterday, and it appears that I have used 3 studs. So, on the outside are 3 nuts, each with a locking washer.

As one (more?) of the studs enters a hole which goes into the water jacket, the thread of each stud needs to be sealed with something like Red Hermetite, and the stud must be screwed in hard so that the thread locks into the block.
