marki Posted January 4, 2014 Report Share Posted January 4, 2014 Hi all I've just striped out the old carpet ready for replacement, and I found 3 wires at the rear of the prop tunnel purple/purple white and black. I'm guessing they are for some sort of interior light but I have never seen a 6 with one. Was this an optional extra, or standard fix ? Cheers Mark. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
Andrew Smith Posted January 4, 2014 Report Share Posted January 4, 2014 Mark, An interior light plinth (trimmed in felt) was fitted to rear of the gearbox tunnel on CP cars (pre-Sept 72), see item 120: http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=2534 I see your 6 is a 73 registration, but probably a CP spec car (going by the bumper light and the fact you have the wires) and if so so should have an interior light. Denis Posted January 4, 2014 Report Share Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) My CP has one with courtesy door switches, and it has an on/off switch too...not that the light is in a very helpful position! So when I fitted a power point under my dash, I got one that lights up the passenger footwell, which has proven useful at night for the passenger to read maps by. Mark69 Posted March 21, 2017 Report Share Posted March 21, 2017 My 69 as door switches fitted but no interior light was present when I purchased. Neither can I remember seeing cables when I stripped the car down. The wiring loom was butchered so a new one was ordered (still wrapped up)Year specific. So question the wires that feed the light are they wired into the rear half loom and on my car would it have had a light switch on the h frame .? Thanks Mark. John390 Posted March 21, 2017 Report Share Posted March 21, 2017 (edited) I had the same problem with our first 69'. The light and plinth were missing. I was fortunate at the time to buy a second-hand plinth with light fitted. I must be honest. I did not know how far forward to fit it, but decided to fit it as far forward as I could without extending the wires and fouling on the seats so that it showed at least some light in the front! Blue cedar Posted March 22, 2017 Report Share Posted March 22, 2017 The light plinth has 2 grub screws which hold it all in place on the prop tunnel. Perhaps if your car had this unit fitted originally......if you lift the carpet you will find 2 holes in the tunnel where the screws were secured. The unit is straddled on top of the tunnel, an inch or 2 from the rear panel/deck. The 2 holes should be about 6 inches apart. Peter Quote Link to post Share on other sites

bluebob Posted March 22, 2017 Report Share Posted March 22, 2017 Hi Mark I also have a 69 six now for over 28years it has the interior light mounted on the prop tunnel ,I also have footwell lights although these were an optional extra they are all switched via doors or switch mounted in h frame the switch is period and is pulled rather than switched and has a image of a light on the knob these switches were popular in there day and used on many other triumphs, as mentioned by others the foot well lights are great , I have added another light mounted on the bonnet to give some light if ever needed again switched separately Bluebob Quote Link to post Share on other sites
