Brian Wiggins
Before I start installing the upper column can someone please confirm that the steel collar (not the spring) is located inside the forward clamp and that the 'open' side of the collar faces down. As it was tight to the column when it was removed from the car I didn't bother to take a photo prior to it being removed whilst being re-bushed. I searched the parts catalogues, service manuals and the forum but cannot find any reference.

peejay4A
I'm having trouble visualising the part you're referring to Brian. Do you have the part number?

Brian Wiggins
Hi Stuart Many thanks! My hotmail account was hacked recently and I appears to be having trouble with certain addresses. Could I therefore trouble you to resend it to brian.wiggins@amdac-carmichael.com Best regards Brian

Brian Wiggins
I'm almost certain that this mystery part is a spacer between the steering/ignition lock and the rearward steering column clamp. Stuart has very kindly offered to check a CR model later this week so we'll see. (it's still a mystery why it doesn't appear in the parts catalogue and what's it for anyway!?) Ghianightmare
Brian, I have the same problem! 4 months since the column came out and can't remember where that collar goes and like you said, it's not in the parts catalogue. Can you advise where it goes? And do all year tr6s have the spring clip under the top half dash clamp? I can't find one, so don't know If I have lost it or if it wasn't there when I removed the clamp. There is marks on the inside of the clam to suggest there was something there at some stage... Any help appreciated thanks
ray gill
Yes it does have one. 609639. I send you one if you like £

Brian Wiggins
Hi Stuart, Not a problem! I'd guessed there was an issue but thanks for letting me know. Subsequently I've established that it is a spacer between the steering lock and the Upper Clamp which I'm assuming is there to limit the amount of fore and aft adjustment on the column but I'm guessing! Either way that's how I've refitted it! Thanks again! Brian
Ghianightmare
It does go between the steering lock and upper clamp. It is referred to in the repair operation manual text, and shown in the plan drawing of the outer column if you look close enough, but not in the parts catalogue Now to search the garage for the spring... stallie
Great resource this. Have been wondering where it goes for the past week as I refit after steering bush replacement. Can't find it in the parts catalogue or any reference online and yes, I see it now in the brown book profile view. But does anyone actually have their steering column poking out that far it's actually necessary? I've just put mine back together (for the umpteenth time) and the bush holes are about half inch from the dash fascia, which gives plenty of room between the ignition switch and the upper column brackets. Thanks! Edited March 26, 2017 by stallie
