This was the second visit this season for the Championship. Gurston Down is located nine miles west of Salisbury on a working farm, so that the competing cars in the paddock are surrounded by farm buildings and machinery. Hill climb events have been held here since 1967 and in the Club House there is a picture of a TR2 driving the hill, non-competitively, for the first time on what had once been a farm track, and had just been re-surfaced.
The day consisted of a range of classes, including Ferraris, Ginettas, Roadgoing Production Cars, Modified Production Cars and Racing Car classes. The TR class was supported by eight entrants, comprising three TR7 V8s, two TR6s, a TR5 and a TR7.
The weather was not good with showers making for a wet course. Sensibly competitors did not push too hard in the damp conditions. The only casualty to the elements was the gazebo that Rod Warner had kindly supplied for us to shelter under. High winds cracked some of the aluminium supports, bending the frame and leaving us only with the option of taking it down. Rod has since reported that the gazebo is now serviceable again having been repaired in the traditional TR manner with: an old piece of wood, two big hammers and gaffer tape!
Fortunately the timed runs were completed in dry conditions with no off track excursions or problems for any of the TR competitors. However, other classes did not do so well and there were a number of delays due to cars running out of road and one off track excursion requiring the Rescue Unit. As a result of these delays it was sometime before we had our second timed runs. The weather being drier enabled competitors to put in some good timed runs, with John and Jonathan Weedon, Arthur Massey, Graham Howard and Graham Ramsey improving their first run times. The TR Class record holder – Hugh Maund - once again took the fastest time in the class with a best time of 37.80 seconds. The results are as follows:
| Name | Car | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Hugh Maund | TR7 V8 | 37.80 |
| John Weedon | TR5 | 38.93 |
| Jonathan Weedon | TR5 | 39.40 |
| Rod Warner | TR7 V8 | 41.11 |
| Arthur Massey | TR7 V8 | 43.51 |
| Nick Smith | TR6 | 45.16 |
| Graham Howard | TR6 | 45.49 |
| Graham Ramsey | TR7 | 49.40 |
