CLM 2012 Question & Answers

Our presence in Maison Blanche combined with that of the Triumph Sporting Six Club (TSSC) at Tertre Rouge will ensure that specifically the TR Register, TRs, and all Triumphs in general will be a major force at this prestigious International event. There have been a number of common questions asked and posted on the TR Register forum I will answer those I can now, but we will keep you all informed of updates when we have them.

When is Le Mans Classic?

Dates have been confirmed as 6th, 7th and 8th July 2012. The ACO had told us dates would not be confirmed before September 2011, but soon after published them on their official website: www.lemansclassic.com/en/s01_home/s01p01_home.php.

We have learnt to expect the unexpected of the ACO!

I went to Tertre Rouge last time with “Team Triumph” and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am confused is this the same offer?

“Team Triumph” was an independent group of Triumph enthusiasts who very successfully organised the Triumph presence at Tertre Rouge at Le Mans Classic for three years. They handed over to the TSSC who secured Tertre Rouge for 2010 and will be offering the same facilities for 2012. The TR Register camp site will again be in Maison Blanche. Tertre Rouge is limited by its size to the number of Triumphs it can accommodate. The TR Register site provides for all those many Triumphs that were unable to get into Tertre Rouge, but wish to be with fellow enthusiasts. The TR Register will not be handling bookings for Tertre Rouge. If that is your preference you will need to book direct with the TSSC. The TR Register is booking for Maison Blanche again for 2012.

What ferry routes and travel dates is the TR Register offering?

We are not! Everyone’s travel arrangements and requirements will be different and the TR Register is not offering a travel agency service. It will up to you to book your ferry and dates of travel.

However, we are investigating the possibility of group and individual discounts and will keep you informed on this.

Last year at Classic Le Mans it way very hot (40 deg C) and there is limited shade available at Maison Blanche camp site. Does the Register intend to provide any shelter?

There are strict regulations preventing us from erecting any shelters/gazebos at Maison Blanche. Most members last year sought shelter in the Grandstand (10 minutes walk), used the tree lining the circuit (200m away) or used umbrellas – these forms of shelter are also useful if it rains - as sadly, even the TR Register can’t organise the weather!

Will I be able to book Track Laps through the TR Register?

No. We bought Track Laps in 2010 from the TSSC, but recognise that the TSSC is best placed for dealing with the track lap logistics and communication. So, Track Laps are to be booked through the TSSC on an individual basis and when available will be sign posted to the TSSC website by a hyperlink.

In 2010 many of us found getting to and from the circuit difficult due to poor French road signs, and when inside the circuit found equal difficulty finding what’s-where. Is the TR Register going to produce some maps?

Most outlets of WH Smiths and similar book shops sell good quality maps of France, particularly the AA series of road maps. However, we do agree that the circuit maps available online through the Official Le Mans website are at best are ‘very busy’. The Official Le Mans Programme has a good circuit diagram. That said, the entrance to Maison Blanche is not very well sign posted (particularly if you arrive early) neither is the access route to Tertre Rouge, so yes, we will endeavour to produce a basic site map, probably an overlay of Google Earth.

The TR Register CLM 2012 information CD will also feature a ‘Sat Nav for Dummies’ section which will allow you to set your sat nav for the exact location of the camp site main gate and literally drive you through the gates!!

Although the toilet and showing facilities at Maison Blanche were better than previous years, does the TR Register intend to provide it’s own shower blocks for members?

The short answer is no. Toilet and showing facilities at Maison Blanche are improving year on year as the event gains popularity, and there is no reason to suspect that they will not improve again for 2012. The main reason is cost, of which will add significantly to the ticket price and prevent us from offering ‘a best value package’ – another reason is that it would be difficult to police and ensure only TR Register members used the facilities. There’s a lot to be said for ‘the early bird catches to worm”, or rather the shower!

I hope this has helped. Look out for updates and further Q & As on the Register’s Classic Le Mans Micro-site, the Forum and in TRAction.
