So - just recovered from the group AGM, the usual classic affair, with everyone who attended braving elements by far the worst of the winter, freezing fog, minus 5, and five to six inches of snow in the Lakes. Beautiful to look at, but a trial to drive in. We were digging cars out of the snow in The Hydro Car Park, after the meet!
All that said, we finalised an even fuller than usual programme for 2012, including: CLM / Italy / Switzerland, and a special 20th. Group Anniversary day, as well as a very special founder couple’s anniversary, to be appropriately celebrated.
Finally our 2011 awards:-
The Day To Remember Award deservedly went to Jim McVey and Anne Whitehead, for what was just a superb Scottish Long Weekend, and the good news is that Jim and Anne are going to repeat a weekend for this year.
The Neville Theaker went to yours truly.
The Reliability Award went to Mark Sindle for what was just a quite magnificent breakdown, probably the finest in Cumbria Group history. Mark smashed his clutch some fifty miles north of Ullapool on the Scottish West Coast, and many hundred feet above sea level, a breakdown few can imagine ever being beaten. Mark’s impression of the guy who answered the telephone, was also classical:
“We may be a wee while, we dinna ha’ the facilities”.
Nice one Mr Sindle.

Our monthly meeting on 4 March was held at the Ruthin Castle Hotel as the Kings Head was unable to accommodate us due to a prior booking for our usual meeting room. The Ruthin Castle Hotel is a very imposing building based on the site of the original castle which once dominated the town. We were very warmly received and were accommodated in a comfortable room with an impressive period fireplace with real flames in it. There has been a suggestion that we review our meeting place and that will be done in consultation with group members over the next month or two.
By the time you read this we will have had our first run of the year on Good Friday which will take us through the counties of Flintshire, Cheshire, Shropshire, Powys and Denbighshire. A full report on the event will appear in the next report.
This will be closely followed by ‘Drive It Day’ which will this year take us into the Snowdonia and Caernarfon area. We are hoping for fine spring weather for both of these events.
On Sunday 6 May we hope to have our annual treasure hunt this year being organised by Patrick and Caroline who were last year’s winners. Richard will be emailing all group members to see who wishes to take part so that arrangements can be made for a possible barbeque at a secret destination.
Later in the month on 18 May the North Wales Group will travel en bloc to the Cotswolds for our week end away which this year is earlier than usual due to a number of our group intending to go to Classic Lemans in early July.
Now we are on the right side of winter (we hope) we are all looking forward to a full programme of events during the course of the summer.
As always all Register members in North Wales and beyond are welcome to join with us, so please make contact if you would like to get the best out of your TR.

There is not that much to report although the days are getting longer and we look forward to British Summertime on 25th March, when we will be able to utilize our cars in the evenings.
Over fifty members attended the February meeting at the Antrobus for a chat and some lunch although there were not many TRs in the car park. What softies we are.
At the moment time seems to be taken up booking accommodation for TR weekends and holidays. Up to press, Red Rose are attending the Traws Cambria weekend, Leicestershire Weekend and Prescot Standard Triumph Marque Day. The pensioners, unemployed, and skivers are also having a week in Dorset organized by Anne and Peter Walker from 13th to the18th May. Meanwhile we are looking forward to Richard and Christine Seniors’ Bunny Run on Good Friday. Hopefully DUD will be on the road by then and as the photo shows there is not that much work left to complete the refurbishment.
Clifford Foster has, after scouring the country, found a sapphire blue TR6. Fed up with looking at rubbish he thought he would pop over to TR Bitz, which is literally down the road and lo and behold they had what he wanted at a reasonable price. I am told he is extremely satisfied with his purchase. We are not going to lose Clifford’s TR3 from the club as Dave Roberts has bought it.
For details of all events please refer to our web site www.redrosetrs.co.uk everybody is welcome to all the events and TRs are not obligatory.

Wharfedale
Stan Lowe
We held our AGM on February 7th combined with our monthly meeting. The official positions remain the same i.e. STAN LOWE Group Leader, KEN BAILEY Deputy Group Leader and JOHN HUSSEY Treasurer for another twelve months. A copy of the Minutes is available on request.
At the end of January four Wharfedalers spent a walking weekend on the North East Coast at Beadnell. John & Jean Hussey, Jean & Stan along with four friends enjoyed three days of good weather; the only down side was I suffered from some nasty blisters!
March 4th was Ken’s Ten Pin Bowling at Shipley followed by lunch at The Noble Comb Shipley. We had a good turn out. Once more Keith George took Gold with 154 points, and the Silver went to Kenny Hudson with 144 points; John Hussey claimed the Bronze with 115 points. My score is best not mentioned.
When this is published we will have resumed our monthly evening dinners - the first one is on March 27th at the Wharfedale Inn, Atherton. Future dates and venues will be on our web site.
John and Stan will attend the Group Leaders meeting at Gaydon on the 11th March. I will report on this at the next meeting.
After years of my pointing out the advantages of electronic ignition a few more members are taking the plunge having decided that it is pointless (sorry) to carry on with the old points and condenser system and so are updating to Electronic. This could mean less break downs this year…. Watch this space.
