Do you know this man?

International Quiz Night, 18th July 2008

There will be a “Pub style” Quiz on the Friday evening, next to the bar (where else?) in the Severn Hall starting at 9pm. The question master will be Bill Piggott, with Steve Redway as roving “Master of ceremonies” plus his lovely assistant. Up for grabs will be a large Trophy for the winning team, plus many spot prizes to be won during the eight rounds.

We are hoping that all local groups, or other enthusiasts such as the Peerless team, or the 6X drinkers team, will enter at least one team of up to ten members. You can enter on the evening or in advance by email to phil@tucker-ems.co.uk ... Remember you've gotta be in it to win it!

Standard Triumph Marque Day at Prescott

All the Standard and Triumph clubs came together on a wonderful sunny spring day at Prescott Hill, in Gloucestershire on the 18th May 2008.

This was their opportunity to drive the prestigious hill climb owned by Bugatti Owners Club. Almost six hundred members and friends enjoyed a day of action and interest, although for obvious reasons, not against the clock! Almost a hundred camped over night in the Orchard area of Prescott, in idyllic Gloucestershire countryside.

This was a unique weekend event which included, on the Saturday, a Cotswold run and for those who booked in time, an exclusive fish and chip supper on the GWR (Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway) and a superb BBQ in an adjoining paddock.

Enjoy the selection of pictures which give a taster of the atmosphere; a report will be published in TR Action 228, out on 14th July. Click on any of them to see a larger version. All pictures are courtesy of Steve Redway.

Leaded Fuels Update
Press Release from Bayford & Co Ltd

Bayford & Co Ltd brought leaded petrol back to the UK market in 2000, primarily to service the needs of the classic car owner.

As the only government-approved supplier of leaded fuel in the UK, following the decision of the major oil companies to withdraw the product, Bayford remains committed to doing all it can to make leaded fuel as widely available as possible.

Recent press speculation suggesting that Bayford is no longer willing to supply leaded fuels is incorrect.

Bayford, winner of numerous awards from the classic car industry for its efforts, including the Penrite Award for its Managing Director, Jonathan Turner, and the Classic & Sportscar Award for "Product of the Year", takes its role in fulfilling this declining yet important demand very seriously.

Bayford does, however, face difficulties in securing product and recently outlined its frustrations in a letter to its retailers, which presented the full picture of the situation. Its long-term blending partner has decided that the volumes through the tank are no longer sufficient and the search for an alternative supplier - which complies with the stringent health and safety criteria for leaded product - now extends across the world. Several possible options are being considered.

Never one to give up, Bayford's Managing Director, Jonathan Turner - an enthusiastic supporter and collector of veteran, vintage and classic cars - is continuing the search for a satisfactory solution.

Turner said: "Working alongside the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs and Lord Montague, we have had a consistent fight over the years with the government to keep this product available.

"Despite having to pay an extortionate rate of duty on leaded and the consistently declining volumes, we are working hard with all concerned to continue to make leaded fuel available. Despite all the frustrations, our retailers have been fantastic. This subject is very close to my heart and we are determined to do all we can for our customers and all the classic car clubs and enthusiasts across the country."

Wanted: Ex-Triumph Employees

If you are an ex-Triumph or Standard Triumph employee or indeed know someone who is, we would appreciate hearing from you. The stories from the days when our cars were coming down the production line in factories all over the UK are seldom told, but when they are, they are entertaining and informative to all who read them. Do you or your Triumph colleagues have stories to tell? If so, we would like to hear from you. In the first instance, please contact Steve Redway, Editor of TR Action, either on 01453 842723 or at: steveredway@aol.com

Please don't keep your memories to yourself - share them with Triumph enthusiasts worldwide.
