Dale Huxford
Profession - Fund Manager
Home town - Surbiton, Surrey
About Me - Over 50 now, married with two children, a son keen on cars and doing Mech Eng at Bristol Uni, and daughter Brook, who was seen driving the Spitfire round the paddock at Caste Combe, and who can't wait...
Experience - Newbie to motorsport in 2010 following too much time spent rebuilding the car. 4 events completed, Gurston Down, Lydden Circuit and 2 at Castle Combe.
About the Car - An ex TSSC race Spitfire, bought as a loosely assembled kit of parts, although complete and running. Includes a full race 1300 engine built in 1992 and reported to produce 130hp. Lowered firm suspension an adjustable shocks. Stripped out interior and full roll cage.
2010 Season Highlight - Making it to the top of Gurston Down without breaking down and in under 46 seconds.
Other - Can I really change the head gasket, rebuild the gearbox, varnish the dinghy and finish the kitchen before April 2011?

Graham Paul Howard
Profession - Retired Highways Superintendent
Home town - Gillingham, Dorset
About Me - Born and raised in Essex, moved to Dorset 20years ago where I worked until retirement 18months ago. Married with one son who recently obtained a degree in Electronic Engineering but has no interest in motorsport. Other interests include shooting & historic aviation.
Experience - Started competing 5 seasons ago following a day at Gurston Down Hillclimb School in my standard TR6 that wetted the appetite. I wanted to take part in some form of motorsport & budget constraints dictated that sprints & hillclimbs were more realistic than say circuit racing.
About the Car - I drive my car to the events therefore it has to be road legal & as it is used for social purposes it needs to be set up for a degree of comfort. I have owned the car for the past 18 years & following an initial restoration I have continued to improve & upgrade over the years.
2010 Season Highlight - Following several class wins this year proved more successful & I finished 2nd overall in our Championship.
Other - Have driven at the World Speedway in Florida as part of the Richard Petty experience in one of their V8 Nascars.

Hugh Maund
Profession - Retired Trout Farmer
Home town - Dulverton, Somerset
About Me - Age: 71. Always been interested in motor sport, but was unsure how to get involved, and was very taken up with the farm and family. Looking back this was a mistake, and I should have started much earlier.
Experience - I was persuaded to enter a race at Spa in 2004 and 2005. A wonderful circuit. In 2007 the TR race series seemed to have died so I entered the FISC Eurotour, with 3 half hour races at Zandvoort, one of 50 mins on The Nordschleife, and finally 3 more half hour ones at Monza. I won 4 of the races, 2 of the others I threw because my car was so much faster than the rest and I did not want appear greedy. I was only 4th at the Nordschleife, a track I never really came to terms with, but a great box to have ticked.
Racing was becoming hard work, so in 2008 I thought I would return to hillclimbs but up until now I am nowhere near as quick as I used to be, although I managed to break my record at Prescott in 2009. This may well be old age or possibly or the car is not so well set up as the old car was. Any way there is always next year.
About the Car - The car is a much modified TR7/V8. Lightened to around 1000kgms with me inside it, the 4.6 litre engine produces around 340 bhp driving through a close ratio gearbox and a modified Jaguar 4HA 3.77 axle. The brakes are full competition spec, as is the rose jointed suspension, and the wheels are 13” ex works rally magnesium 11”wide on the rear and 9” on the front The car is much better on circuits than it is on the hills because I think you need understeer on the hills whereas it tends to oversteer at present. The car is well known for its concours condition, although not yet as smart as the immaculate one owned by Rod Warner!!
2010 Season Highlight - I am afraid I cannot claim any real highlights during the season as my times were disappointing on the whole, but I was quite pleased to cross the finishing line at Shelsley Walsh at 100mph. However I have really enjoyed the events and have got slightly better as the season has progressed. The challenge of having a real go is most satisfying and there are so many really nice people to meet. Despite my rather poor performance, I have managed to win the 3C class award.
Other - Although I accept that I am not as fast as I used to be I still greatly enjoy hillclimbs, particularly if the weather is dry. I shall soldier on for a bit more yet, and hope to get back to somewhere near my old form.

Ian Prout
Profession - Retired, (worked for BT for more than 32 years) but rebuild rally cars, TR3’s, TR6’s and A30’s for friends! How did I find time to go to work?

Also spend many happy hours competing on hillclimbs, sprints and navigational historic rallying with Kevin in the TR3A.
About the Car - Fairly standard TR3A, no modifications to the engine. Standard road tyres. Anti-roll bars front and rear, TR6 gearbox with overdrive, electric fan with lightened flywheel; electronic ignition and alternator. Steering box.
More to follow on the TR6 when we take ownership.
2010 Season Highlight - Always to many to list, but the marshals applauding my efforts in the TR3A at Prescott on the Standard Triumph marque day … it wasn’t supposed to be competitive, oh yeah!

Other -

Neil Revington
Profession - Director Revington TR, Superpro Europe and TDC Automotive
Home town - Bridgwater
About Me - Married with both a son and daughter. Marcus works for our 3 companies (until he gets a proper job) whilst Natalie is at University but also works for us part time too. Born in Manchester. Apprentice and early work in MOD Aeronautical Quality Assurance directorate. Final stint at Westland helicopters Yeovil, hence now living in Somerset.
Experience - Competed in Southern Sprint and Hillclimb championship before our current championship was formed. Mine is the first name on our trophy, my TR2 was the car I used at the time (it was my only car). Have taken part in most forms of motor sport including trials in a Dellow now owned by Natalie.
My first competition was an auto test on the car park at Heston services. On a Sunday the car park was deserted! Took part in the TR Register race series for the first few years then in selected races rather than a series, peaking at Le Mans Classic 2008 competing in the TRS we built for Paul Gerring. Rallying started in the early 1980's with local stage rallies in my TR2.
Long distance rallying came along in 1983 in the form of a Rally from Bordeaux to Bristol. I have had quite bit of success in this form of motor sport. Sue and I have won about 6 international rallies including the FIVA world Rally in 1996. I took the works TR4 6VC to Tasmania in 1997 and competed in the Targa Tasmania. Came 1st in class and 19th overall with a local navigator. In the same car with another navigator we came 2nd overall and 1st in class in the tough Historic Monte Carlo Rally in 1998.
About the Car - For hillclimbs and sprints I generally use the TR5 I built specifically for the Targa Tasmania rally (not taken it yet for all the usual financial reasons). It is too tall and too heavy but goes well enough. The works TR4 rally car 6VC sometimes comes out to play, but like the TR5 is too heavy. I still use my TR2 as well.
2010 Season Highlight -
Other - Revington TR have been the TR Register Sprint and Hillclimb Championship sponsor for so long I can’t remember when we stated it. I don’t think there was a sponsor before us.
For years I have been building Skollob (written across the front apron - you can work out what it says in your mirror) a TR4 chassis with a TR3 lightweight body and TR6 engine. I shall probobly finish it when I am too old, too daft and too stupid to drive it!

Rod Warner
Profession - Telecoms Design Engineer
Home town - Nr Basingstoke
About Me - Age: Wrong side of 60. Married , Grandkids , Dog , Huge Caravan , dinghy , sailboards and a Stealth Black TR7V8.
Experience - Used to compete in the 60’s ( when was poor student ) in Rallies , Autotests and Autocross ( 2.5 litre Riley twin cam in 100E Anglia) , then got married and was really poor . Bought a TR7 and SD1V8 in 1990 and built a TR7V8 for hillclimbing starting to compete in 1995 . Have managed to hold many of the class 2C bogeys.
Eventually learnt to use practice to get the feel of the track and the car – much less bodywork involved !
About the Car - Not many standard bits left on the TR7 now – many bits have been diy modded ( angle grinder and welder exponent ) All the steel panels are still there. The engine is best described as a tuned Vitesse – though it didn’t start from there. Best mods: New pair of glasses and new A032R tyres.
2010 Season Highlight - Was a bit thin on events for various reasons. Biggest relief was not getting stuck (in glutinous mud) in the Prescott trailer paddock
Other - Keep on Climbing and Sprinting

Roger McEwen
Profession - Maintenance Manager
Home town - Chippenham
About Me - Age 63, looking forward to retirement and spending more time fettling the cars, one of which is the beloved TR6 . Married with two girls who are also married. As well as TRs I am very much into Jaguar cars.
Experience - Started Hillclimbing in 1999 after visiting Prescott to see a Vintage meeting. Normally compete in 10 to 15 events per year.
About the Car - The car is a roadgoing 1973 TR6 in Mimosa and is driven to every event. The car was rebuilt in 1992/3 and the engine rebuilt in Stage 2 condition by Revington TR in 2002. The suspension and brakes have been upgraded to suit and the diff is fitted with a torque biasing unit.
2010 Season Highlight - The highlight of the year was to win a second in Class at Prescott Hillclimb followed by third overall in the Championship.
Other -

Simon Allaby
Profession - Property Developer
Home town - Todmorden
About Me - Age 44, Married with one son aged 7, obviously enjoy motorsport but am also a keen scuba diver. Share the car with David Hardcastle who is also in the championship.
Experience - Started in the Championship in 2005, won several trophies including Class champion in 2007 and overall champion in 2009
About the Car - The car is a TR7 V8, built for the Championship (article in TR Action 2009). It is fairly heavily modified, we have lightened the car considerably and run on slick Avon tyres, the budget has not yet allowed a race prepared engine or proper hillclimb tyres, we run on 2nd hand Formula 3 tyres currently, and will probably change the engine to a 4.2 instead of the current 4 due to the changes in the blue book.
2010 Season Highlight - One lap at Ty Croes, had a problem with the car over the winter, so this is the only event we entered in 2010, but we will be back for more in 2011.

2010 Season Highlight - Finished the extension.................

Graham Ramsey
Profession - Risk Management Consultant
Home town - Sandhurst, Berkshire
About Me - Born in Fareham, Hampshire. At age of 10 went to live in West Germany as my father was attached to the armed forces. Living between 2 RAF air bases I became very interested in aeroplanes until I visited my first motor race. This was a damp Easter Monday in 1985 for the second ever F3000 race. I was hooked. In 1987 I joined the British Motor Racing Marshals Club and could be found most weekends volunteering at Rallies, Sprints, Hillclimbs and Races. After 14 years I decided it was time to have ago and changed the orange overalls for a set of race ones.
Experience - In 1996 I started out in competitive motorsport participating in single venue rallies in an Opel Ascona and then historic events with a Lancia Fulvia. I also did some co-driving at national level. Rallying became expensive and I looked at other forms of motorsport. I had marshaled at sprints and hillclimbs so decided to have a go. I entered the Fulvia in a sprint at Abingdon and 2 events at Gurston Down. The rally cars were sold in 1999 to put down a deposit on a house and I hung up my helmet - temporarily. In March 2000 I bought a TR7 with a view to competing in the Revington TR Hillclimb and Sprint Championship - specifically the Roadsports class. I have been competing in the Championship and this Class for 10 years. I have had a lot of fun and made many friends.
About the Car - The car was a Speke built TR7 registered in June 1977. The car has been prepared in line with the Roadsport class. The engine is standard, though the SU's breathe through KN filters. A sports exhaust has been fitted and the suspension uprated with SPAX dampers. The only other change is the original 4 speed transmission has been replaced with a 5 speed and the car now wears factory alloys with Yokohama A539 tyres.
2010 Season Highlight - Surprisingly the last event of the year was my season highlight when I beat the bogey time for the Class at Castle Combe by 2 seconds.
Other - The TR7 shares garage space with a 1962 Lambretta Scooter. This is very much a restoration project as the scooter was bought as a heap of rusty and corroded metal. It is proving to be a challenge!

Frances Luget
Profession - Retired
Home town - Weston Turville
About Me - Always been interested in cars, but haven’t had the time until now to have some motoring fun.
Experience - N/A
About the Car - This TR3A was exported to California in 1958 and it spent the next 44 years there with just the one owner. It was imported back into the UK 2004 and was subject to a ground up nut and bolt restoration and preparation for track days – so it has a fair few gizmos like racing seats, roll bar, front and rear antiroll bars, full harness, electronic ignition.
2010 Season Highlight - N/A
Other - Buying this car!

Nick Smith
Profession - Property Developer and Operator
Home town - Salisbury
About Me - Aged 55. Married. 3 Children. Like outdoors, ski-ing, sailing and cars.
Experience - None apart from odd motorsport days and karting evenings.
About the Car - Bought “Nimrod” (cost a fortune – worth nothing) a CP TR6, mid 2010 after wanting to get into low cost motorsport and living near Gurston and being inspired by Roger, amongst others. Car is a typical early nineties rebuild, which I bought for £6,500, with generally good rust free body and chassis, but little driven, so out of tune chassis and ancillaries. Had the whole underneath rebuilt by Mark at Southern Triumph, to Roadsports spec (which has now been superseded by the new regs!!!!) and added new PI myself. Going quite well but needs some fine tuning which I will have completed by the first round at Gurston.
2010 Season Highlight - Watching Gurston and Castle Coombe and looking forward to taking part myself.
Other - Never had so much fun with a car since my 105E I learnt to drive in the fields as a child.

David Hardcastle
Profession - Security Manager
Home town - Tamworth
About Me - Aged 57. Divorced with two daughters who continue to bleed their father white. Enjoying eating and drinking beer or wine in equal measure.
Experience - Been competing with this car since 2005, managed class champion twice but before that it was just some karting.
About the Car - It’s an animal but that is what Simon Allaby and I wanted to build. No compromises, lots of power, borderline control, intermittent grip, barely adequate brakes, hot and noisy inside, a bit scary if I’m honest.
2010 Season Highlight - Took a break and gave the car a much needed makeover.
Other - Author of The Rover V8 Engine and also Tuning the Rover V8 Engine both published by Haynes.
