Le Mans Classic Q&A Session

TR Register member’s meeting held Sunday 26th July 2009, Questions & Answers session I. W. E. Malvern.

Facilitated by: Duncan Jolly, Andrew Smith, Howard Prior and Mike North

Q1. When will we receive the information on CD?

A1. Mike has prepared a very comprehensive information pack on CD. This is an ‘idiot’s guide’ and as such will be enough for any ‘Le Mans virgins’ and will also have interesting bits for the seasoned Le Mans attendee. The CD will be sent out to all of you who are coming to Le Mans 2010 with the TR Register package, in plenty of time to get prepared for the event. The information will also be available to download from the TR Register web site.

Q2. Will there be showers? (like at Tertre Rouge)

A2. We are not trying to compete with Tertre Rouge. We did research similar facilities but found it to be very expensive to have our own shower block, not to mention the complexity of policing it for use by TRR members only. Costs of extra showers would have to be passed on to you in the ticket price. TRR are trying to maximise value for you and have decided not to take extra shower blocks. In previous years there have been adequate shower and toilet facilities for all those camping in Maison Blanche on a par with those at Malvern.

Q3. Will there be a bar and BBQ? (like at Tertre Rouge)

A3. Again, we are not trying to compete with Tertre Rouge. Camping at Maison Blanche will be a different experience but equally enjoyable. We do plan to hold a meet and greet BBQ, on a “bring and burn” basis and to have a central gathering point. Again, no official bar as this would be costly. We will have an informal gathering or two for all TRR members to get together.

Q4. What’s it like at Maison Blanche?

A4. Maison Blanche is a super spot with good views of the track at the end of the Porche curves and only a short walk from the start/finish line. We will be taking large blocks of camping at Maison Blanche. A review of campsites can be found on HYPERLINK "http://www.beermountain.com" www.beermountain.com, known as the Le Mans camping survival guide.

Q5. Has the date been confirmed yet?

A5. Yes, the ACO have confirmed Le Mans Classic 2010 as 19th, 10th & 11th July 2010.

Q6. What are the LM 2010 access times?

A6 On previous years there has been access to the site from Thursday lunchtime to end of day Monday.

Q7. How secure is the campsite?

A7. LM site security has improved over the years and those without a ticket will not be allowed to enter the circuit grounds or the campsites. All tickets are scanned on entry and exit. (i.e. any would be criminals will be deterred).

Q8. What do the tickets include?

A8. You will have choice of 2 packages: Camping and entrance or hotel and entrance. Polo shirts, rally plates, Paddock passes, Grandstand seats and our CD are included with the tickets. We want to have a big TR Register presence at Le Mans 2010 and to make a positive impression and promotion of the Club . We are also toward track laps. We will send you more information about these as soon as we know for sure.

Q9. What if we’re travelling alone?

A9. If you buy a camping ticket then you automatically get 2 entrance tickets. This is the package on offer from ACO: 1 camping spot plus 2 entrance tickets. Our package has been tailored around this to simplify process and keep overheads to a minimum.

Q10. Are there any facilities for the disabled?

A10. The French generally offer good facilities. Access to toilets and grandstands are all suitable for the disabled. We will look further into this and provide more information as soon as we can. We shall amend the booking form to include any special requirements that you may have.

Q11. What about ferries?

A11. You will need to book your own ferry. We recommend that you do this soon and if travelling in a group good discounts can be achieved..

Q12. Can we get a track lap? And how much does it cost?

A12. We should know by October. Last time it was approx £80, so we’d expect it to be around £100 in 2010. We hope to get a large group of TRs together round the track and we may liaise with TSSC to achieve this as competition from other clubs to obtain the limited sessions available is immense.

Q13. What is the price for the TR Register package?

A13. We should be able to confirm this in October 2009 when ACO announce their ticket prices. We have made estimations based on the 2008 prices + inflation + exchange rates. We expect the cost to be in the region of £250 per car camping. That is 2 people in one TR, using one 7m x 5m camping pitch, and will include 2 polo shirts, a Rally plate, windscreen sticker, a Le mans Guide, paddock passes and grandstand seats.

Q14. When will we need to pay a deposit?

A14. Our aim is that by October 2009 we will be able to confirm details to all those who have registered an interest in LM 2010. At that point we will request a commitment in the form of a non-refundable deposit of £75 per car. Booking will be via the TR Register Web site or a booking form will be available to download.

Q15. What if we don’t want the whole package? If we just want entry tickets?

A15. We should be able to provide individual entry tickets, and we hope you would still want to buy TRR polo shirts too. A Travel pack of two polo shirts, rally plate and guide will be made available as a separate item.

Q16. What about the hotels?

A17. We estimated the need for 10-15 hotel rooms, however over 60 expressed an interest. We are working with our agent to find suitable hotels. We will send out a questionnaire to those who expressed an interest to help us qualify the type of hotel and acceptable distances from Le Mans and find out more about what people expect. We have an option on one hotel that could accommodate everyone but it is of very low standard.

Q17. Why can’t you tell us anything definite until October?

A17. Firstly ACO will not publish any details or prices until October.
There have been very recent management changes at ACO, and currently they won’t talk to anyone, including agents about LM 2010 until October 2009.
There is a small chance this may affect what they offer and how it is provided. We will keep you informed every step of the way of any changes that affect our proposals.
